i have an Autometer Pro-Comp silver series air/fuel ratio gauge installed but i think it might be connected to the wrong wire in the o2 sensor. i hooked it up over a year ago and someone mentioned to me the other day that it wasn’t acting the way theirs was for mine kept bouncing around while their AFR gauge stayed pretty constant with only mild movements in the Stoich area. any idea on the correct wiring of the gauge, i dont remember what wire i hooked it to but i think it was a green one, i believe there are 3 wires black, white, and green, I could be wrong cuz its been over a year since i installed this thing. anyone with good wiring of their AFR gauge filling me in on what it should be or if its hooked up right, that i might just have a bad gauge and have to send it back for a new one.
sorry for not searching, really short on time at the moment. thanks for the help
sh*t, i probably should have also stated that at times, it doesn’t read at all too, is it possibly just loose wires or something like that? if so i’ll fix it tomorrow. i’ll get under there and look at it anyway.
A narrowband sensor runs from 0-1 volt of power. The only correct reading you will ever have is perfectly stoich, 14.7:1. A wideband sensor runs from 0-5 volts of power, therefore it has a wider range of variants to be seen and is much more accurate. One thing people worry about which can sometimes be seen on a narrowband, but always on a wideband is when you let off the gas and are in gear. It will show 20:1, or LEAN; This is the point where your engine basically shuts off.
The reason the A/F gauge will read a certain way (usually RICH) when you first start it up is due to the O2’s heater function, it takes approximately 45 seconds for the sensor to heat up and provide accurate readings. Accurate readings being on a wideband, which still takes 45 seconds.
i think its pretty normal, when i hooked mine up to the green wire on my teg, i started the car with a cold engine and it said it was running rich but after the engine warmed up it started moving around like yours mine also moves around alot but i dont mind
oh ok cool. cuz i just purchased a new boost gauge which will be sitting in my A-Pillar pod in a matter of a coulple of weeks, maybe in a month or so. i get a vacation from work so i’ll be spending ALOT of time in my dads garage with him bolting up my new turbo. damn i can’t wait. for those that have turbo’d tegs here, how much fun is it to just be casually drivin, downshift, and just open that bitch up, flyin by all that cant keep up lol.?
