So I found this site called redlinegoods.com that sellsleather shift and ebrake boots. They don’t make specific boots for 90-93 tegs, but the 94+ fit just fine if you cut the shift boot about an inch around the bottom and the ebrake boot goes right on, no problems. They’re really high quality leather, really soft. Just figured I’d share this with everyone. Here are some pics of them.
cost?
seems like the shiftboot has too many rinkles…
i rather go oem r for 24 bucks
$66 shipped for both. Seems like a good deal to me. And you can get all different leather colors as well as stitching color. I have the type r boot as well, I just don’t like the fact that it’s vinyl. And as for the wrinkles, I have an evasive motorsports short shifter that makes the the knob sit about 4" lower than stock. But after I trimmed the new one it is still a couple inches longer than the type r.
i have the real oem one too and it seems kinda cheap and thin. that one looks higher quality.
Yeah it’s really high quality, it’s at least twice as thick as oem. And it’s really soft and flexible, so I doubt it will ever crack. I’m really pleased. And it’s only like $5 more.
what mods, if any, need to be done to the shift boot to fit the oem type r one?
The oem type r boot is just bigger on the bottom than the g2, so it will fit, but it will just be kind of be folding over itself if you get what I mean. I’m pretty sure you couldn’t trim it up though, because the front and rear of the boot are the same as ours, it’s just the sides that are longer. I’ve seen a lot of other people on here with the oem type r boot and it looks really good. I just prefer the quality, look and feel of my leather one.
My other car is a Miata and redlinegoods.com makes shift/ebrake/seatbelt boots for that car, as well. I don’t have any of the products, but they have gotten excellent reviews on miata.net. Their stuff seems to be really nice quality.
Yeah, they have a ton of postive reviews on their own site. But I don’t know if you can trust that cause they could always choose which comments they display. But one thing I love about them is the leather smell–it’s amazing.
I’ll stick to my Momo Pitstop ebrake and boot.
You should post up pics of those boots. I’ve never seen those installed on our cars.
Oh, now they make these boots custom length for shortened height shifters like mine. Damnit, I wish they would have done that before, now I’ll have to buy another one. :tsk:
I like my vinyl ones better. $15.00
they look great, those are the ones I was thinking of getting
stokeless, :gotpics:
Sorry, not a great pic, but it’s all I have on my PC right now.
