Hey guys, just wanted to share my awesome score today. Have been rebuilding a 90 db1 rs and a 91 da9 ls this winter. My ls da had an armrest with broken cupholder and cracked console. So just last week i painstakingly glued it all back together, had a new cover made at an upholstery shop, sanded & painted (from blue to black), got new foam and carved it to fit, and put it all back together, reglued the cover and re-installed it in my LS. It turned out great and i was pretty proud of myself, although it seriously took like 12 hours in total. So i’m always combing my local craig’s lists from the 6 that are close to me here in wisconsin for teg parts and what not. I came across a new part out from a guy 100 miles from me with an armrest listed. Called the guy and he said 20 bucks! Looked at his pics and it looked like it had a good cupholder, so i drove 75 miles to meet the guy and low and behold it was almost perfect. The only thing was a chunk gone on the lower leg of the plastic cover for the brace. I couldn’t believe it. So immediately when i got home i took it all apart to clean it out, as shown in the pics, and pulled the cover off. If anyone has redone their foam, they know it’s about 75% foam dust, so it needed to be redone. When i scrubbed the cover and was wringing it out it looked like maple syrup. But it did clean up nice and i redid the foam. I over-stuffed it a little because i think it looks better and is more comfortable on the elbow. Put it all back together in like 3 hours today after just doing it a week ago. So now both of my g2’s will have nice armrests and i’m super happy. Here’s some pics.
were did u get the foam at
I got the foam from JoAnn fabrics. It’s just a chain fabric store. Carved out the recess with a large serrated knife. It is leaps and bounds better than stock. On a side note, it’s funny how some people try to bag on craig’s list. Personally i think it is a beautiful thing and i’ve been able to scrounge up all my parts for two cars super reasonably and met some decent cats as well. Anything i haven’t found locally, i’ve found on g2ic anyway. These cars are going back together really quick and it’s been alot of fun.
