Axles keep breaking

i need help with my 1992 integra ls. well the problem was when i would turn i would hear a clicking noise. i was dumb and didnt change it, on the way home from work the axle broke on the driver side. i had it towed to my friends shop. i bought a new axle and put it on and minutes after installation i test drove it and it broke. i went to get a new axle with the warranty snd after installation it broke as i was test driving it. im really tired of thinking of ways to why it keeps breaking and ripping the boot off the axle. i have a bad motor mount and my car is really low. can someone please help me. i need this car for work and school…

u going to autozone by any chance? if so u’re gonna keep breaking those especially if u are really low. their axles for our cars are 1" shorter than oem. u need to go somewhere else, or get them from the dealer. either way don’t get them from autozone unless ur car is NOT lowered.

You say one of your motor mounts are bad? Bad motor mounts can cause an axle to come out of the tranny/half shaft. Get your mounts replaced asap. I’m at least 3 inch lowered so I don’t think that’s a factor…

I’m not sure about what Squeezethis said about Autozone axles being 1 inch shorter than oem but I get my axles from Kragen and they have lasted me for about 3 years now… no problems at all… just make sure you get NEW ones and not remanufactured.

Check your mounts and also make sure the lock pin on the axle snapped in place when you replaced the axle… if everything fails… then I’m pretty sure you fucked up the suspension somehow when the axle broke.

yea i did get them from auto zone and it makes sense that its ripping bc its not long enough

Yeah make it a habit of measuring up your axles when replacing them. Even if it fits at first and bolts up… doesn’t mean they are the same… good luck.

Jeff, can you please come up with some confirmation or pics or something regarding this. I find this VERY hard to believe. They might not be top quality, but the general size/fitment should be fine. I’ve used many different axles from different sources and never found any to be the wrong size.

I actually just replaced both OEM axles two days ago on my '93 with a new set from Autozone. Before putting them on I laid them down next to each other and they were exactly the same. And I do mean exactly, with the only exception being that the new ones looked… well… new.

honestly i tried a new axle from napa and its still seems short, when i tighten it all down it seems to still pull it from the tranny side… damn im giving up on this car it seems as if there is some frame damage and one of my motor mounts is bad.

i use brand new napa axles with no problems. im dropped 3" and have 300whp.

It’s probably your broken motor mount that’s causing the pull on the axle for it to come out and break OR the suspension is bent somewhere on your initial axle break thus not keeping a tight fit on your replacement axles…

Try getting a new motor mount then see what happens…

Do you have a stock transmission? If you have a different transmission I believe you should be using the appropriate axels, too. Or it just could be the fact that the trans and motor mounts are worn causing all this movement.

Exactly what Squeezethis mentioned.

The autozone housing where the bearing sits in are 1 inch shorter then oem or oem/napa like. This is exactly where they are short and not the axles themselve. Take boot off and just put axles in and turn the wheels left or right u will see bearing sitting at edge
about to pop out. I replace them 4 times pop out but didnt break so i return it. I was only 1.8 inch and if u are 2.0 drop plus yea break

I have posted about this before about how i took it in and compare before i brought NAPA ones and they match up with oem or longer then autozone before i buy it.

If i were u take it back and get a FULL REFUND before u get another axles or get money back. For me i had napa or oem to take in and compare and say ya product is BS and is shorter i broke one after another so i want money back. They should comply because it is not made for fitment which is defective no matter how many times u change it…

I hope this helps…And for other people sayings tranny mount and other problem it is not. The moment he explain how the problem was it was exactly like me plus the autozone axles. I suppose they never fixed it.

The funny thing is i always used them back 5 yrs keep changing them every 6 months. Then one day i suppose the product somehow got remade( cut Cost) and cut to make it shorter WTF! when it was working fine before.

well i do have an autozone one on my lowered db1. i was ok with it cuz i knew that i wasn’t gonna lower it for a year or so. but… i don’t have pics to confirm but i have measured it. EVERY SINGLE time i ever remove the front driver spindle assembly, or even just remove the lower ball joint to do anything, i ALWAYS have to reassemble the joint. luckily i’ve done it so many times that i don’t even have to remove the boot to do so. but if u ever wanted to match n compare… i have one that is guaranteed 1" shorter than the others. the only thing is that it never dislocates even tho my car is pretty low, whether doing u-turns or whatever… all stays in place. its just for some ppl. so i dunno.

Believe it that it is shorter than oem or napa brand like cardone.

I’ve started back 5 yrs ago always love using autozone parts, because i can fraud or get replacement from the limited lifetime. The one main thing i’ve always return for exchange is the axles many time just so i have a new set every 6 months for the hell of it. Sometimes unlucky cut from rocks chipping the boot a bit and grease leaks.

I still have my oem acura axles all taken apart without boot for comparision.
I have them in the napa box. I Dont know why, but because the last yr or more they started making or sending in the shorter ones.

Honestly if i really wanted to get down on this I would probably contact Autozone main and compare with oem, napa and few other brands vs autzone reman with legit photos and ask them to continue to support our cars by remaking them longer on the housing. At least this is what i always get back then that the housing where the bearing sits in are 1"in shorter on the inner housing.

What pissed me off was I had a boot leak so i return for exchange and within 2 hrs after i install it i reverse out and as soon as i turn left clunk pop and got scare and turn it quickly back straight and had to drive around block without making too wide of a turn and back into my garage to remove it and got refund from a 4 yrs warranty. If u guys still have info/receipt on this and u have or used autozone axles u can get ur money back dude.

They shouldnt complain at all as it is a or considered a defective part PERIOD! if u provide proof.

yea i hear ya. i know about the refund/exchange stuff, but personally the shorter autozone axle is working for me at the moment. i just know that i gotta usually re-insert the trunnion (3 bearings) back in by hand whenever i remove the ball spindle from the front lca. fortunately it hasn’t ever dislocated itself during driving.

Ya its true autozone fucked me over

fix your engine mount. acquire Raxles. done

Ima try to do my moter mounts see what happens

I just replaced moter mount with new one and still sort idk what to do some one plese help

^what are you saying?!?!?

OAN: go to napa, get some DSS axles and call it a day. i had GSP from advance (reman) and they sucked, always busted a boot. i went to DSS from napa, they are still fine.
