I’m planning on getting a B&M Short Shifter and I was wondering if the extra money for the “Race Version” is really worth it. The standard one is supposed to reduce shift throw by 28% and I can get it for $57.07 The “Race Version” reduces shift throw by 36%, has upgraded bushings, and is available for $135.00
Is it worth the extra money for the upgraded bushings and the shorter throw and are there any other better features of the race version?
I tried asking the same question a few weeks ago, seems nobody has the race version. I think I am going to get it just to find out. My friend has the regular version and it is tight, I like it a lot better the the neuspeed, skunk 2 that my other friends have.
Thanks for the input. Let me know how you like it if you get the race version. I’m leaning towards just getting the standard one. Pretty much everybody on here has it and seems to love it so I’ll probably just go for that, it’s a WHOLE lot cheaper too.
i had the b&m short shifter (standard) its awesome but i drove my boys 92 teg with a dc sports–NICE–difference is smoother and at high rpm and high speed no vibration baby!!! also throw in a spoon knob they feel tight…
Thanks for the input people. I just ordered a B&M Edge shifter and Energy Suspension shift bushings from Summit Racing. I plan to install it over Christmas break, nowhere to work on my car at school
Yeah, I’ve had the Energy Suspension bushings and STR shift knob for about 4 months now. Just slacking on getting the shifter.
Hey everybody, I got the shifter and bushings and installed them today. It took longer than expected mainly due to my extremely short hydraulic jack and some really rusted exhaust bolts. I had to cut a square hold in the exhaust heat shield becaue the shifter was scraping really bad on it. Overall the install wasn’t too bad. The shifter feels great! It’s allot shorter than I thought it would be and the shift points are even smaller than expected. I can really tell a difference with the bushings, shifts feel more rigid and locked into place. I’d definitely recommend this product/products to anybody. For the price it can’t be beat either! One of those mods you get to enjoy everytime you drive your car. To answer the topic of this thread, the shifts are so much shorter that I think the race version’s little bit of difference wouldn’t be all too great. Probably not for the price tag atleast. I’m happy with the standard version.
Gekko,
Kudos on the good follow-up.

no one has the race version?
this is a demonstration of the B&M Pro Edge Short Shifter in my g2. Movie starts off in neutral and i go through all gears 1-5 & reverse. You can see how short it is and how far forward neutral is. You can easy see how notchy & precise each shift gate is, and i love it that way. Enjoy.
Thats what I have been waiting for. I am getting a gift certificate for Summit Racing for xmas, so I was going to order a B&M shifter. I figured I might as well get the Pro Version.
So comparing the Pro version to any other short shifters you have had? Have you had the Regular version of the B&M to compare it to?
crap… I just created another thread abot this… but still no real info on the “racing” shifter
Can’t really contribute to this trend about the B & M race version, but I do have the dc sport short shifter w/ ES bushing…feels soild and positive going into gears…but pretty sure B&M is the same if not better.
I have the B&M race. I love it. I notice it’s smoother and shorter than the standard one that my friend has. The bottom hangs lower and hits the RSR mid section. But I think I might have that bend down a tad to fix it.
I bought a cheap ass short shifter off of e-bay. It sucked. It hung so low that it would always scrape and make rattling noises on my greedy sp2 exhaust, and after having it about 3 months, it snapped an inch or so down from the shift knob. So I went all out and ordered the B&M race short shifter. Oh what a world of difference. It hangs pretty low, but does not scrape or rattle anymore on my exhuast, and the shifts are smooth as butter. I couldn’t ask for anything better. It’s well worth the extra $$ in my opinion.
Nothing is better than the JDM ITR shift linkage and shifter in combination with PROTHANE bushings. I love mine, and I have tried all the aftermarket ones.
