i found out the hard way that any b series tranny made 1991 or earlier is different than b-series trannies made 1992 and later. I have a y1 tranny w/lsd that i got from japan out of a 88-91 civic siR and wanted to put the lsd it in a 92-93 ys1 tranny because of worn synchros in the y1. looked at the differential housing to put my lsd in and it was different. then i looked at the whole tranny housing and it was different. Anyways, just FYI.
the ys1 didnt have a lsd option so you can only get a aftermarket lsd

Yeah, I always thought the tranny was the same, as far as gearing at least, but 90-91 is S1 and 92-93 is YS1 right? What gives?
the y1 tranny i have that i got from japan has an aftermarket lsd in it. i can tell cause the housing for the lsd is billet and factory lsd housings were not billet, they were cast as far as any factory lsd i’ve ever seen. the size of the housing is roughly 10-15% smaller than the factory type r lsd housings i’ve seen, and also there’s a slight difference in shap of the housing.
gen2ls/vtec do you know where i can pick up a short geared tranny for my b17a?
i know someone selling a gsr(ys1) tranny- what’s made for your engine. i’ll see how much he wants for it
Allright thanks a bunch, I’d hate to taint the vtec engine with a long geared nasty LS transmission.
btw when you find out what’s up email me at ckobeska@yahoo.com or give me a call 214.540.7862 ask for clint.
