Guys-
Just wonderin about a B16A1 and my stock LS tranny…With a cluth and flywheel… What kind of gearing yada yada yada will that produce… I was just checkin out some sites and thinkin about a B16 longblock SirI for cheap… Proabably been asked a billiion times but I couldnt find anything in a search… Thanks for the help on the dumb question… Late- Jeff
yada yada yada…the ls tranny will work. The reason people prefer a vtec tranny is because, for example, you’re accelerating as fast as you can and you take it to the redline at 8200 or whatever and shift into second; well with a vtec tranny when you get into 2nd you will automatically be around 5000 on the tach and hence still be in vtec. With an ls tranny you will drop out of vtec between shifts…or something like that. I’m no expert on vtec so ya know.
anyone else? I agree… So basically, I should go with the mated tranny unless going with forced induction?? Help!!
well, not only are the gear ratios closer, but they are also shorter, so the car will pull harder. I think that’s the main advantage of a higher redline, small displacement vtec concept.
A b16a with the higher redline mated with the taller geared LS tranny, won’t even pull as hard as an LS engine (same tranny, both stock). The shift points will be too spaced out for the performance ideal i guess. The car will likely be slower than with the ls engine/tranny setup.
