b16 head or b18a head/ works

Should I get a b16 head (stock) and go ls/vtec, or buy a ls head with 404’s, springs, retainer, and port polish. Which do you guys think is better? The ls head I could just bolt on but the b16 head will need work. They run for about 500 each. will I get the same power with these heads?

The truth of it is the ls head already sounds built up so there aren’t very many things you can do to get more hp out of it. If you built up your bottom end then you’d almost be out of stuff to do. With the b16 head, you can get new cams and build it up and then build up your bottom end and get more hp than with the non-vtec route. So basically with the vtec head you’ll have more work yet to do on it which I think is a good thing; I mean, we drive integras not porsches. In the end, you’ll get more power with vtec but not without more work.
