B16 tps, or distributer???

ok i searched for this topic but i didn’t find anything, so if it’s already been discussed please forgive me. here’s the deal. my car was runnin all fine and dandy until like a week ago. all of a sudden it started sorta like hesitating. it was also not hitting vtec and once it got to roughly 5 grand the tach needle would jump around. well, i changed the distributer cap and rotor, and it still did it. then yesterday i changed the tps. it ran perfect yesterday. then this morning i left and when i started it up it didn’t really want to start, then it did but when i took off it was even worse then it was before. now i can’t go above 4 grand w/out it doing it. and this isn’t all of the time, it’s sorta like spontanious, but more often than not. does anyone know what else it could be???

oh yeah…i also disconnected the two o2 sensors b/c someone said on honda tech that would fix everything…well they were wrong.
thanks in advance!

Didja adjust the new TPS and after that did you reset the ECU?

yup…thanks though

Did you check the spark plugs? Mine had oil on them when the spark plug gaskets went and caused a similar problem. Good luck, might not be right, but worth looking. Check the IACV also, mine gave me trouble and did the same thing.

Try cleaning the plugs out that connect to the distributor. Both the plugs… sometimes the connections get dirty or corroded… so try that… it happened on my car and that fixed it!

even if they’re new plugs?

Im not talik about the Spark plugs if thats what your asking… Im talking about the wiring harness. Check those plugs.

no i was talking to wasdedteg…the wiring harness is fine, when it first started happening i figured that either a plug was loose or dirty, so i checked them…do you think that maybe i should try sending my injectors away to get cleaned, or get new ones? cause to me it seems like it is in the fuel…it’s like my motor is loadin up with fuel. and if an o2 sensor is bad, would that maybe make it think that i’m gettin more air which leads it to pushin more fuel in?..AHHHHH i hate cars!

yes

It wouldn’t matter if they are new plugs if oil is getting into them. If the spark plug gaskets are blown, oil will get onto the spark plugs and the “new” spark plug wires that you bought. I actually just replaced my IACV and my car was hesitating prior. You might want to check that~~its connected to the intake manifold (on back). To check you have to take it out and clean it, then get it down to 32 degrees (fridge) and then heat up the end where the coil is. If the coil moves-then its fine. If it dosent then you have to replace it.

I had almost the exact same problems. Would idle OK if I could get it started, hesitation under load, kinda backfiring thru the intake, and no Vtec. Pull a spark plug wire off of the distributor with the engine running and see if a spark will jump from wire to distributor. If it’s a very small spark and will only jump 1/8" or so, the ignition coil is prolly shot. It should jump over an inch and be very visible even in bright sun. (I had a 2nd Honda to compare to.) I opened up the distributor and found the secondary winging post on the coil melted/fried. There’s also an igniter in there and maybe that’s something to look at if the coil is OK. Helm manual has some resistance readings to check on the coil but mine was a no-brainer!

i just hooked up a few vacume lines that i must of taken off somewhere along the line and it’s has only done it once. i am still going to check the coil. oh i also re-adjusted the tps…it was giving .9 volts…i put it down to .4. i hope this works…cross your fingers for me

ok…forget that. it definatly is NO WHERE NEAR as bad as it was, and it only hesitated once going into second and no vtec until 3rd…i’m gettin pissed

are there any CEL’s???

what are cel’s? i was driving it yesterday and it pretty much died on me which leads me to think it is the distributer…my bf tore it (the distributer) last night and he said that a wire was rubbing and it was corroded. we replaced it and still no luck, so if anyone knows where i can find a b16 distributer let me know cause this one’s shot.

alright, i took all of the internals out of my ls distributer and put them into my b16 shell, well now the piece of **** won’t start. it’s just spinning and won’t turn over, but it’s still getting spark. i’m soooooooo sick of this car. anyone have anyclue now?

My distributer isn’t getting any power, I have a JDM b16a, and the power wire leading to the distrubtor isn’t getting juice. When we pulled the motor (LS) The wire harness look great, and I transferred it over, and now the JDM b16a won’t start, no spark anyone have this problem!!!

i had a similar problem with my b16 and it still hesitates slightly. check your injectors

yo

Yo guy you really gotta check your altonator, email me later ill tell you details but thats probly it,
