after being stranded in a ghetto ass hood in reno nevada for 2 days! im finally home!! thanks to a friend with a trailer and 500 bucks out of my pocket he came all the way from cali to pik me up and tow me home.
now the problem! i have a 91 integra with 97 ls motor and b16 ys1 transmission. i was driving back to cali from a funeral in idaho and was entering reno nevada. my car started shaking really bad so i pulled over and thought it was a bad axle. nope! wasnt the axle. so i drove around the streets and it finally crapped out on me! all it does is rev! i put it in first, second…and any other gear and try to take off but all it does is rev up!
i can even put it in gear without pushing the clutch down and it will go in butter smooth. and when i press on the gas the mph goes up like im driving… i dont know guys!!! this sucks…i just bearly did the clutch like 2 months ago too…
nope not yet. i just bearly got back into town. i talked to a mechanic and he said its a high possibility its the input shaft or the differential. im just hoping some of u guys ran into a problem like this and help me figure out what it can be because alot of shops around here are cheap skates and try to rip u off. some half ass it and dont even finish the work!
i had the same problem 2 weeks ago. ended up being the axle popped out of the transmission (had a bad rear mount and missing/loose bolts on the suspension due to mechanic error).
damn i wish it was just my axle! lol i can do axles like nothing but when it comes to trannys… i dont know crap about them! lol i looked at a b16 tranny with the case open and it looks soo confusing! i think my best option as of right now is to drop the tranny and take it to a shop to have them rebuild it… anybody have a rough estimate on replacing the differential or input shaft? im 95% sure that its gotta be one of those two
input shaft bearing usually gives out before the whole input shaft does. differential is going to be some expense. I know here in Orlando it’s 650 for a rebuilt tranny with 1 year 12000 mile warranty.
dang now u guys got me nervous!!! lol well tomorrow im going to start taking the tranny out. but when i check my axles up in reno the cv boots still looked pretty good. even though they are not ripped do you think there is a possibility that the bearings inside the cv boots are bad?
the boot on my axle wasn’t ripped either…it pulled itself from the transmission then contorted. if it pulls out of the transmission it’ll have those symptoms. you can check that easily by placing your hand up by the axle seals on the tranny and feeling for the inner shaft if you can feel it then it’s out of the diff.
OP,
It’s one of two things, and you already have an idea. It could be the Input shaft bearing, or it’s something internal in the trans. I’m in socal and could offer some help on the trans end. Update this thread or email me at Jharadon @ a o l .com, depending on what you find. I might be able to refer you to someone for trans repair closer to you or you could make a trip down south to have me take a look at it…

Nice! Thanks man I’ll definatley keep u guys posted!
alright guys! thank the great man above that it wasnt the transmission that blew out! after closely examining my axles… the teeth or spline or whatever that goes into the tranny was really worn down. there was also a few small rips in the boot and most likely lost alot of grease over time. but to top it all off… auto zone gave me 2 passenger side axles!!! and not only that… it was for a hydro gsr transmission!! crazy people…
so i bought the right axles that i needed and CAREFULLY examined them to make sure i got the right sides and part… slapped them on and yess!!! it works! saved me a crap load of money! cuz i thought my tranny blew out…
ya i just knew it! i had that gut feeling ya know? i knew it couldnt have been the trany because its a very low milage tranny that i got from a buddy of mine. thanks for all the pinpoints and advise g2ic. im glad i saved time and money.
becareful of those autozone axles as i do not know if they have changed the housing since before. They are shorter as far as i know from that last time i had them years ago.
the problem was if i was lower more than 1.5" and making a full u turns the axle housing where bearings sit inside can pop out ripping boots and getting car tow again.
