b16 tranny with ls 4th & 5th?

Well i bought a b16 tranny and 4th gear dont work i still have my LS tranny and was thinking of switching out the 4th & 5th from the LS one to the b16. Would this be a good combo on just a all motor LS . So b16 1st-3rd and LS 4th & 5th

Why do you want to put ls 4th gear? ive heard of people doing just ls 5th gear in a b16 tranny but not 4th and 5th

I read a post where someone put Ls 4th and 5th in a b16 trans and was completely rebuilt. Dude said it was the best thing he ever done.

That was for daily driving though. I wouldn’t consider it for racing status.

Because my 4th gear dont work

do it, why not…get that MPG back…although i only lost about 2-3mpg

Nothing to lose if it doesnt work to begin with.

All these posts and not even mention of the fact that what he’s trying to do might not even be possible. Not all transmission internals can swap, and without knowing WHICH “b16a” trans and WHICH “ls” trans he’s talking about all this talk is a waste of time.

I have an 92 XSi transmission with an LS 5th in my car now, I installed it years ago when I rebuilt the transmission. It works excellent for long trips and cruising on the highway. But it is a pretty drastic change in rpm in the 4-5 shift.

Keep in mind that if you have a 88-91 B16 transmission you must use a 90-91 integra LS 5th gear set. And if you have a 92+ transmission you must use 92+ 5th gear set. Access to a press is a must, and I would not attempt it without a helms manual.

As far as you wanting to change 4th and 5th that would be a total waste. The performance drop would be significant enough to not even bother with spending the time and money to swap the gears.

^Now there’s a useful post!
