i just got my b16a. i want to know. are all the harnesses run the same and plug in excluding the 4 extra wires? so will i be able to use my stock complete harness on the b16a and just make a little harness for the vtec, vtec, knock, and o2 sensor? because where my harness is cut itd be really hard to use it. id like replies from people who have actually done the swap.
Yeah dude, you can use your existing harness for OBD-I setup which that is the way I went. You’ll just have to run three wires for the VTEC solenoid, oil pressure, and ground. What is did was buy some wire from Autozone and ran them to the ECU (I used a reprogrammed P28 to DOHC VTEC specs).
i have a 90 integra gs with pr4 ecu. im putting in a b16a with a pr3. i believe that both are non obd. do you know if my harness will fit? am i wrong about my ecu and its an obd-1? i know about the extra wires ill have to run( i understand its 5 wires vtec pressure, selonoid,2nd o2, and knock, wheres the ground at? ive got the engine in my garage so ive seen the sensors except i dont recall a ground. ive read alot on the subject but i really dont have much experience with these engines so could you help me out? i always value what someone whos done it says over the vague stuff i read on the internet.
The ground is the black wire that is coming out from the solenoid. You just simply wire that to the chassis anywhere you feel like. Since you’ll be using the PR3 ECU which is non-OBD, you probably could use your exisiting wiring harness since the 90-91 Integras (correct me if wrong) is non-OBD and the 92-93 are OBD-I. If that is right, your exisitng harness which would be made for non-OBD would fit for the engine and the PR3. I have a 92 Integra and it is OBD-I so therefore I kept with OBD-I on my engine. The wiring is different between non-OBD and OBD-I. I am pretty sure that your harness would work. Hope that helps.

You are correct, there are four wires that go to from the ECU to the motor. The ground that “akirax” is referring to is the ground wire that comes from the VTEC Solenoid (which is on the engine). You can ground the wire on the block.
The PR4 ecu in your 90 Integra is non-obd. Your existing harness will fit; I did it in my 91 Integra.
thanks for all your help. i wouldve checked out the engine swap guide but i dont have microsoft works or word or excel so i couldnt look at them. im gunna get started with the sweap tommorow. ill let ya know how it goes
i just dropped in a B18C1 into my 91LS… i didnt catch on to what i was reading… so, the ECU from the 94-95 GSR would replace my LS ECU perfectly?? what exactly do i need to do??
please help… i’m reading all the tips and stuff, just not comprehending.
zoomintegra: i read up on your link, and i think its great! i just wanna ask if you can clarify the ECU thing…i’m really lost on what i should do.
thanks.
um…you’re kinda screwed if you’re using the stock intake manifold. there’s secondary intake butterflies that HAVE to be controlled by the ecu, and the ecu for that engine is OBD-I, while your car is NON-OBD, which means it won’t plug in. you’ll have to get a different intake manifold, like a skunk2, and either a pr3 or pw0 ecu, then run the wires for vtec accordingly. it’s all in that engine swap guide, look again carefully.
