B16a Head on B18c Block questions

Right now I have a b16 in my 90 teg but I wanted to get a b18c block for the added torque. Is this a simple bolt up and go or is there anything else I have to do. I plan on upgrading some of the bottom end componets before installing, then go to work on the top end. Any suggestions… the cheaper the better:D

they bolt right up to eachother. its not like with the ls/vtec where you need to get any machine work done, or have any oil lines run. All vtec head and blocks will just bolt to eachother just fine. You just need to make sure you use the right timing belt (in this case the b18c timing belt).

also, some of the various sensors might be in slightly different locations. But i’m guessing all that should be visible and at most you may have to extend a wire to reach.

here is what i’d do to the block:
-oversized jdm itr pistons/rings $330 from jdmhondaparts.com
-new bearings
-bore/hone/deck/balance

while you’re in there you might want to replace the clutch and maybe lighten the flywheel too. If you have the money i would definitely suggest those two. They will be easy to access with the engine out, so if those are in your future plans you might as well do them now while they are easier.

Yes, either throw in ITR (P73) or even SiR (PR3 or P30) pistons into that B18C block or you’ll actually drop compression when using the GSR pistons (P72) when putting on the B16A head. Reason is because the flow chambers on the B16A head are larger than those on a B18C head, thus dropping compression by about .3 comp pts. Throwing in P73 ITR pistons into that setup will give you the compression of an ITR motor. Throwing in PR3 pistons will raise it even higher to around 11.5:1 comp… great for all-motor use.

If the block is still low milage and not beat up, you shouldn’t have to replace the bearings… that can get costly when replacing them all.

i’m sticking with Stock Pistons at first. Any idea what the max RPM you should push the bottom end of a B18c ?? i’m thinking of adding a turbo down the road so i don’t want the high Compress…;

High Comp and Turbo= Blown ENG :eek: :eek: :eek:
