B16a Transmission Problem....Please help

Sorry its a bit lenghty but its driving me nuts…

I have been swapping my tranny twice now and the same problem is happening. When I am driving in 5th gear, the shifter would automatically “pop” out of gear and go into neutral. This has really been a puzzle to me. I cant seem to find out the true underlying cause. My car was originally an AT and converted to manual. Both trannies were JDM B16a S1. I had my motor mounts, shift linkages examined for misalignment or wear and still could not come to a conclusion. They told me that Im either unfortunate that both trannies were coincidentally bad.

The car drives well 1st- 4th gears in both trannies no problem except always 5th gear. I had read some forum members mentioning that they had a b16a with an LS 5th gear setup.

MY car has regular b18a with i/h/e . Is there such thing as incompatibility or do I need to modify the B16a tranny’s 5th gear?

Lastly, my friend’s G2 also had a AT-MT swap and never had this problem. Only difference is he had a LS tranny.

Anyone with opinions and tips please help. Thanks

do you rest your hand on the shifter while cruzing. i heard that is what causes that problem, but i dont remember what it is.

mine did the same thing

i was cruzing down the freeway and my tranny poped out of gear than my tranny took a ****, the person that looked at my car said that my throuout (bad spelling) bearing was bad . try sitting in your car , and with the palm of your hand try hitting the shifter down, and listen for noise

I think i’LL change my rear engine mount for a new one cuz my mech believes that it might still be one of the main culprit why it is happening.

So lets see what happens afterwards. Thanks for the feedback guys

good luck man

OK<<<I had this same problem also…

I had this same problem after i swapped out my whole b18a to a b16a si a jdm tranny i knew what the problem was from the beginning so i got it fixed. I went to jiffy lube and got my tranny fluid changed…go ahead and do that…it should fix the problem guys…ONE!!!
