I recently installed a b16a Sir1. The engine runs fine. Although VTEC does not engage. I used a subharness from hasport for the extra wires(2nd O2, Vtec solenoid, Vtec pressure, Knock sensor). I have no check engine lights, and the Acura dealership says it is wired right. Why is VTEC not workin? Anything I should check?
I don’t know how to fix your problem I just wanted to comment on the fact that this thread was “moved due to do ignorance” (that is exactly the way is written lol). It seems to me that because this is a b16 problem that this tread could belong in the hybrid forum. This is a problem I think having all these different forums, not a ignorance issue with NYinteg.

I moved this post here because a lot more people frequent this forum and help each other out. The hybrid forum doesnt get as many hits and not as many people with good answers would see it there.
Also, I dont have any control over what the “post moved due to” line says.
Hey i remember you having this problem for awhile and remember i offered my help but you never reply back. if you still interested, i can check to see whats wrong. i live in CT not too far from NY about 45min from the bronx. hit me up!!!
Pull off your vtec solenoid and check the gasket on it. There is a screen on the gasket to filter out crap from the oil. If that gets clogged that could cause your problem.
Just one more thing to check.
Just got my car back from the Acura dealership. They say that vtec is not engaging due to my ls distrubtor. They said I need to buy a vtec distributor for my b16a Sir1. Is this true? I thought the ls distributor would work with the b16a.
your distributor is not the problem…have you checked ur timing by any chance? if that is off by alot…it causes problem sometimes. You know someone that has another ecu that u can try, maybe it’s that.
May I ask how u know that ur vtec is not engaging? Because my cousin kept telling me that his vtec was not working when it was all along. He was expecting a hard pull when vtec kicks in, but that’s not always the case. If you have the vtec point set right, the engaement should be smooth (meaning all power has been utilized from pre vtec then to vtec).
and you know when vtec kicks in. especially DOHC. my friends d16z6 in his civic EX with stock exhaust is no change in feel or sound…but in my b16a with loud thermal cat back, you can hear it change…also if vtec werent engaging you WOULD feel a lack of power higher up instead of power all the way to redline.
if your running the 1st gen b16a and a pr3 ecu, vtec should activate at around 4800-4900 and you will hear it. is your speed sensor hooked up? vtec won’t work without it hooked up.
