b17 to b16 clutch n flywheel question...

first of all, is the b16a clutch and flywheel setup the same as my b17? I just got a new organic clutch and 8 lb flywheel, and I want to use it in my jdm b16 swap. secondly, how do you get those damn flywheel bolts off? I tried my best with a huge cheater bar and could not get the thing to stop turning. I was at a gas station and the guy there said they just press in and they aren’t bolts at all. was he just fucking with me?

yea he is fucking with you. They are bolts (12 point) you can use a prybar on the ring gear and engine housing or Punch tool (through one of the bolt holes) to keep the flywheel from turning. The clutch is the same as long as the tranny is the 92-93 JDM YS1 version. The JDM 90-91 (Y1, S1) tranys require a USDM 90-91 clutch disc.

hey 2ndJenn, not tired of answering this question yet? i think you answered it 3 times today, on 3 different posts. lol

:werd: It is a daily thing. I wish people would search.

so true, these threads are everywhere. i once was a non-searching n00b, now the search button is my best friend!

Don’t use a pry bar… thats not very stable.

The best method (courtesy G2Guru) is to use a 14mm combination wrench. Take one of the transmission to engine mounting bolts, stick it through the closed end of the wrench, now thread it into the block. Then swing the wrench around so that the open end is near the flywheel, turn the flywheel until you get one of the pressure plate alignment pins in the neck of the open end of the wrench.

if nothing else works, you can buy the tool they use in the shops. its listed in the helms manual and it bolts up to the block with teeth sticking out to stop the flywheel.

the wrench method WILL work, and its free… the special tool is a waste of $$

I’m not saying it wouldn’t work… I used a crowbar to stop the flywheel and it worked fine. Just saying that if all else fails for some reason, there is a sure way to get it done.

what clutch would i use for a b16 tranny on a b18?

SLAP!!! Read the post again.
