It happens once in a while, and it’s pissing me off. I’ve installed a new fuel pump, and that seemed to reduce the occurence.
Oh, an’d it’s been caught on the dyno too.
HELP! thanks.

wow, i bet my dyno would look just like that! yeah, i feel a big hole in the power from about 3500-vtec, but it doesn’t happen every time… and sometimes it’s worse than others. i want to try a new distributer, but first i want to get the timing right on what i’ve got now, because i have no idea where it’s at. oh, and my setup is a b17, too.
hope you find out why… let me know, too!
good luck, thanks!
jeff
is there a lean spot there? or is it just your motor taking a breath before its vtec excursion?
what all do you have done? just bolt ons or?
This is what it looked like the other two pulls.
I hate theses types of problems. Tricky to diagnose.
The car has a few bolt ons.
Here are the car specs for those runs:
1992 Integra GS-R (B17A1)
183,000 kms, original clutch + internals, front tire pressure 25 psi (stock wheels), 16 degrees timing.
Short ram intake, DC 4-2-1 ceramic header, B&M fuel pressure regulator + gauge, Thermal R&D 2.25" catback exhaust, E-2000 fuel pump (190l/h @95 psi).
Fuel pressure was set at 45 psi for the clean run, 50 psi for the bog. But it didn’t bog the second pull at the same psi (50).
maybe…dirty injectors?
I had the same problem with my b17. Right around 4000-5000 rpm it seemed as though it would miss. But mine was glich in the TPS sensor. I replaced that and it fixed the problem.
same prob here…
I have the same prob… when the car is cold… she will pull fine through the rpms… but no vtec…because she’s cold. When it warms up… the dead spot shows up… right around 3500rpms-all the way to 5500rpms… when the vtec kicks in…after that…she pulls hard.
I’ve had the timming set… and played with the fuel.
I have a set of DC headders , no cats , 2 pre scilencers and DC cat back. Vortech fuel rail… and pressure reg. DC long intake , 8.5mm magnacore wires. The head has been shaved .02.
The rings are bad… because she kicks out black smoke when I get on her hard.
It feels like the timming is being retarded.
Help!!anyone?
Add me to the list of b17a owners with this problem.
stop playing with your friggin’ fuel … u guys are no better that the factory honda engineers…they sorta know what they doin… I don’t have this problem, but i’ll hope its doesn’t show up soon …

Happens occasionally to me as well.
Me too,
B17A1 with I/E Sometimes it will just stumble. Or sometimes it will feel like I am hitting the brakes. My tach needle bounces around too… It’s ok til about 5K then back and forth, back and forth. Both the stock tach and the 5" monster tach.
Any ideas???
Doug
kinda happens to me, but since i put my short ram on it got a little better,… it’s actually horrible for me, but that’s just do to my mods…
Random incidents of throwing rods and now bogging down in VTEC, what else is up with the B17??
me too.
but only noticed it after my install of my TB, ITR IM, and AEM CAI, fuel rail and fpr, so i don’t know what caused it.

This has been an ongoing problem from the day I bought the car (with no mods). If it persists with my new B17A (gonna be an interesting setup ), I’ll have to dish out some $$$ to find the problem.
And if you don’t play with the fuel pressure (among other things) once you have a bunch of mods, you won’t get the most power out of your engine. And power is a good thing.

Maybe your tach wire is loose, I know mine was after I replaced a few burnt bulbs in the gauge cluster. That’s what I’d check first. I used Loctite on the screw that holds the wire in place, no problems since.
i like the dirty injector theory. the injectors may be dribbling at WOT at that rev range. or, maybe just giving it too much or too little fuel. either way, it makes sense to me…
it also makes sense that since our cars have high mileage, stuff gets dirty and doesn’t work as well as before, even though nothing actually breaks.
also, i think maybe my car feels a little peppier in that range with only partial throttle. that would make sense with this explanation, too.
so anyone have their injectors cleaned? i think RC charges like $100 to clean and balance, but i know brake masters only charges like $30… not sure what you get for that, though!
and keep the ideas coming!

I have a B18A and mine does it too from about 4400 - 5100 it just seems to not pull as good. it is bad enough to notice the tach needle slow down at 4400, then move quicker at 5100. My mods are not that much, but it has done it since I got the car. I have intake, header, racepipe, and no power steering… But I know it made it a little better when I put the timing back at about stock timing. Any ideas? I would like the see the air/fuel ratio through the RPM range, i think someone else suggested a lean spot on the curve?
