I am about to buy a GSR with 113000 miles on it. When I looked at it today I noticed some greasiness along the exhaust manifold and down as far as I could see in the engine bay. I asked him about it and he said that it might be the cam seal. When I drove it it felt great (It was my first time driving a car with vtec, I’m no longer a vtec virgin!!!). So its not effecting the way the engine performs. So I was wondering if there were any other suggestions as to what it might be or what I should look for to diagnos the problem. Or, if it is the cam seal’s then how much is it gonna run me to have it fixed?
Thanks for any help.
mine’s the same with. 150,000 miles. doesn’t seem to affect anything, but i’ll wait for a ‘professional’ answer too.
If it is mostly on the passenger side of the motor, then it is probably the cam end seal.
If it is the whole front of the motor then it is probably a bad head gasket and/or valve cover grommets.

MY GS-R IS THE SAME WAY I GOT IT AT 121000 WITH A CAM SEAL LEAK AND NOW AT 145000 I STILL HAVE THE LEAK AND NOTHING SEMS TO COME OF IT BUT A DIRTY ENGINE… AND LOW OIL IF I DON’T WATCHIT FOR LIKE 2 MONTHS
mine was the same with 90k. no problems at all except u lose miniscule amounts of oil and u gotta clean ur engine a lot. actually mine leaks onto the bottom on the distributor cap. the oil isnt getting inside, but it bugs me.

That has nothing to do with your cam end seal. You have a bad distributor o-ring. You should pick one up and slap it on there. It is a pretty quick fix.
