b17head/xsi b16 block questions

Alright so i have bought an xsi b16 block, and i am getting my b17 head fixed. Im wanting to know if the b16 block will go directly in with no problems, mostly wanting to know if all the sensors and such on the block will hook up no problem. Should i have a problem using my chipped gsr ecu on this block/head combo? Reason why im thinking this is because the b16 was an obd-0 motor and my b17 is obd-1…right?

Thanks,
Skyler

First off, since you bought the b16 block, why would you want to use the b17 head? Did it not come with a b16 head?

Also, in order for me to know if its going to work. What is your set up currently? ObdO or Obd1? I

know you said that the b16 is obdo, so that would mean your ecu is obd0 and your engine harness is obd0, correct? If thats the case then yes, swap all your obdo stuff from the b16 head over to the b17.

No dude, your not understanding…a b17 is obd-1…i have a 92 gs-r…which had a full b17 in it…i bought a b16 SHORTBLOCK (just the block with internals already in it)…im wondering if the b16 shortblock will give me any problems such as plugging in sensors and such on the block. SO in all reality its just a full b17 but instead it has a complete b16 block/internals. Again i am wanting to know if every single thing that plugs into the b17 block will plug into the obd-0 b16 block. ( i know the b17 and b16 blocks are the same…but i thought maybe the sensors in the block somehow may be diff because the b16 block is obd-0) Please someone give me some useful advice.

Bump…cmon people i need advice…

Mother f’n bump…give me some advice

I dont have any advice but you have the same name as me! Don’t find to many (Skyler) around.

why dont you just put both blocks side by side and start comparing? That way, you will see what goes where and see if theres any sensor missing and what not.

yea thats what i inted on doing… i was just seeing if i could get some advice before i took the block out of the car. My 17 block is sitting in the car still bolted up to the tranny. Yes, there arent many skylers around…everyone says i have a girls name…i tell them to fuck off…haha.

You will have to change the water neck (thermostat housing and all) depending on the year of the block. Other than that the rest is the same. I have used b16 blocks in BOTH of my gs-r’s while rebuilding the b17 blocks. I used a b16a2 block in one and a b16 pr3 90 model block in the other and it worked FINE. The thermostat housing on one is different than the b17 thus needing to change so the fans work. Otherwise just wire up the fan to the ignition (I usually do this when doing b18c swaps, it is easier than changing block parts).
Any other questions search cause I have covered similar subjects more than 5 times that I know of.

Sweet thanks alot…i really needed this insurance that it would work.

everything is interchangable between the two blocks. if one is obd0 and the other is obd1, put all the obd1 sensors on the block you are using. and you should be fine…we both are b17 owners… i did too, get the 17 to retire. and dropped the 16 in…

I think the main question should be that since your B16 block and B17 head are completely stock, why are you running a chipped GS-R ECU? chipped, non-tunable ECUs are junk.

What’s wrong with the B17A1 block? Are the crank and rods damaged?

B17 head is the same as a B16 both are pr3 castings you will have no problems they will all bolt up and work fine. you can use any dohc Bseried vtec head p72 p73 whatever.

sensors on the block are differant between the b16 and the b17, you will have to swap between the 2 motors. are you sure the p61(is it?) is still in the car? shame if somebody chipped it. might aswell run a p28 if you are going with a chipped ecu.
