B17Vortech is running (dyno chart)

I was pretty impressed, this was my best HP/TQ run, I had a better run by moving VTEC from 4800 to 4100 but the belt started slipping from some leaking Powersteering fluid after 6300 rpm and the max power was only 249 @6300RPM.

The Civic SI 8psi aftercooled kit is moddable to fit on a gen2 GSR.

Other mods I had with the kit:

CRV crank pulley (good for +3psi)
Hi-tech 4-2-1 headers
68mm Holley TB
Skunk2 IM
550cc injectors
Supra TT fuel pump
Hondata Stage 4B +emu
test pipe
RSR catback

My car sounds quiet at idle except for a whistle from the supercharger, after about 3000 you can hear the BOV if you let off the gas. I need some fuel tuneing and I’ll be done. Needless to say I am pretty happy with my results.

Nice work!:stuck_out_tongue:

Too bad that charger wouldnt fit on my non vtec B18… or would it!?

Someone with a B18a will have to do the research to determine if the GSR supercharger will fit on a gen2 B18a. If the bolt patter of your PS pump and tranny housing match up to a 94+ GSR than it should fit. Vortech has the manuals if someone has the resources they should be able to identify if it’s feasable. The only issue is will it bolt up and belt up the rest you can work around. custom intake pipe, 94 gsr PS pump, etc.

this is a Vortech set up on a B17 with a crv crank pulley in civic si?

Did you already post pics? Nice run there.

wow:shock:

no this B17a has been in my gen2 GSR it’s whole running life. CLubSI was the best forum for supporting Vortech and the agreed to host my dyno chart for me. My car pics with Vortech installed are on my friends camera waiting for him to get home upload and email them to me. PIC’s should be coming soon.

I was confused too.

Please post pics!

Whats the best pic hosting website?? When I get the pics from my friend I’ll probably choose a free picture hosting service until I get my website up again.

Any internals/head work? Or simply stock 1.7??
I am going to attemp this quite possibly on my b16. Has anyone you know of been able to SC a b16 in a G2? It seems like it would be the same setup you have.
I am impressed with the numbers you are producing.

Josh

No block or headwork done on this car. timing belt water pump crankcase seal. A b16a gen2 will work just as well, with the same fit issues.

josh, i’m pretty sure he is running stock internals…

b17, did you get the a/f ratio problem that you posted on hostboard diagnosed or corrected? nice #'s

B17Vortech:
I’ve been watching your progress from a distance and I am mighty impressed with your sticktuitvness. I’ll be honest with you when I say that I wonder if it was all worth it; lets face it, those #'s would have been just as easy to get to via turbo, but I do admire your spirit and I can’t wait to see the pictures.

Use www.webphotos.com They will host for free.
WHy are you runnin so RICH past 7K rpm? Nice numbers BTW.

I just used hondata’s stock maps, I haven’t adjust any fuel maps yet. I will be using a lambda meter that hooks up to my test pipe which should be more accurate. Not sure why it’s so rich at high rpms, but it means there’s plenty of power potential to be gained.

www.imagestation.com would be the best picture hosting.

Yes it was worth it, I was on a pretty tight learning curve since brake pads and a mastercylinder replacement were my only 1st hand experience with car work before I started the supercharger.

Basically I had money together and knew I had to spend it or I would probably never do anything substantial to my car. I spent it on the Vortech kit and the hi-tech header since I felt more comfortable building this than my own custom turbo. I was then commited to making this project work.

Now I would feel comfortable building either (SC or Turbo) and figure I could do it within a month even for a custom setup (provided I had a garage, I did all my work in friends driveways when they would let me). I won’t debate supercharger vs. turbo in this thread maybe in the FI forum.

Nice strong numbers for a 1.7L! Nice work! Maybe with a bit more fine tuning on the Hondata, you’ll hit 300whp and 200 ftlbs. Amazing!

Question though. It looks like you the dyno pull stops at around 7700rpms. Why didn’t you pull it to 8K at the least, maybe 8200rpms with the stock GSR cams. It looks like it was still pulling. Otherwise, pretty nice numbers at relatively low-mid boost. Keep it up and good luck!

B17Vortech,

Damn good Job! I see it rather as gumption instead of hassle. Two thumbs up for DA originality!
