Last week i tried to change my distributor. After installing the new one, the car wouldnt start. I figured i messed up the ignition timing and had my car towed to a mechanic. He said that i made the timing belt slip, i bent some valves, and now he needs to take the head off. Hes charging me $250 for labor.
Anyway, i was wondering what kind of work i should have done while the head is off. I was thinking i could have like a 3-angle valve job done, crower 403s, valve springs & retainers. i got about $500 left over. Tell me what you guys think. So far i have intake, header, ignition. My goals for the car are mid 15s, and i dont want to build the bottom end. So what should i buy? what kind of gaskets, valves, headwork? Should anything be replaced? i dont want to have it tuned.
If your goal is only mid 15s you prolly would not have to go with 403’s or upgraded valvetrain. With just very mild cams and tuning you should easily be in the mid 15s. But like you said the head will already be off so you should go ahead and do somthing.
