I did a search and couldn’t find anything dealing w/ the clearance on b18a/b and b20(b/z) engines w/ thinner head gaskets. I basically want to know if i will having any valve clearance problems with a one layer headgasket on a b18block and b20 head. My compression would be around 10.17 ish. Currently i’m running on a 91 engine (in a 92 gs)-i had the 2000 b20 head lying in my room and decided it’s time to get the extra power while i’m saving up money for the b20 block and internals. (i’m on a budget) . Thanks for the help guys
NO ONE KNOWS?!?!
you won’t have any clearance problems, and you won’t be running that high of compression either.
you won’t gain any compression by switching to a b20 head. the b20 head is IDENTICAL to the b18b head. And the b18a and b18b heads have the same cylinder head cc’s. The only power difference between the b20 and b18a heads will be: slightly larger ports and slightly better cams.
you can look it up for yourself on: http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/compcalc/compcalc.html
but your b18a w/ b20 head, and one layer of the head gasket removed is only going to bump the compression up to 9.589:1
i thought it would be 10.1…check c-speedracing. I know it’s not alot but it some extra hp w/o changing pistons…milling etc. I just want some extra hp while i’m saving up. THANKS for your response:)
The B18A/B and B20B/Z have the same combustion chamber volume… the c/r does not change regardless which head you use.
