Im trying to plan what i want to do with my car and was wondering which would work better on it.
Right now i want to have a Daily Driver with some great power. Im not sure about using turbo though…
Main part is it will still be a daily driver but i want it to be something that would autox well
any advice at all or any stories about engines are greatley appreciated
how much great power?
like, BMW M3 fast? or Nissan 350z fast? or Subaru WRX fast?
im liking 350z or wrx fast
i used to beat stock wrx’s with my B16 with full IHE and cams with 155whp… but couldn’t hang if they had exhaust upgrades or ecu tuning, you’ll need at least a 1.8L to hang with them.
you’ll most likely not be able to hang after 100 mph, but with good gearing and a 1.8L you can hang with most with 185-190 whp… this is in a straight line… turns is a different story
which b18 the a/b or the c
i have the B18a1 right now but i think i wanna try to get the c or the c spec r
why not b20?
well im really new to the B engine series…how are the B20s?
IHE? Intake Headers and Exhaust?
you don’t need a b18 to hang with them, you just need the right b16. a stock b16a has 20 more hp than the stock b18a or b. thats because its a vtec. the easiest way to go if you have the b18a is to do a ls vtec head swap. then you’ll be putting down 180 or more to the wheels
:burnout:
atheworld0, Just because you saw the specs on a motor dosent mean you have the 160whp like it says. Also on the b16 you may have the 20 extra whp but less tq then an LS. On a dyno you will see you won’t even make stock numbers. I hate to be this guy, but i am calling BS on the ls/vtec giving you 180 whp to the wheels with no engine mods. Prove me if im wrong…? (Coming from a guy that is running a turbo Ls/vtec)
I’ve seen a lot of dyno’s with the lsvtec and most of them are 175 to 185. sorry, thats just what i’ve seen. now, on reliability, i wouldn’t go with a frankenstein enging. and yes, the b16 is 20 more whp and 5 lbs of toque less. now by just adding skunk2 intake and stage1 cams, you get 28 more whps on top of that and get your toque back.
Depending on which B18A1 you have and which B16A you’re looking at, it’s anywhere from a 20 to 40 horsepower difference. B18A1 engines have as low as 130hp and B16A engines go as high as 170hp.
The big difference is not the actual torque loss in the B16A, because it’s 7lb/ft at the most. The big difference is WHERE the engines reach their peak torque numbers due to their vastly different rod/stroke ratios.
A B18A1 will make its peak torque numbers at 5,000 RPM, while the B16A wont make it to its peak torque range until over 7,500 RPM. This is because an engine with a longer stroke, like the B18A1, will reach higher piston speeds faster, which equates to low end torque.
very true, but the b18a will never live up to what you can do with a b16a when it comes to winning races
Of course not.
A tuned B16A with a 4.9 final drive ratio is like having a street bike.
we will just have to agree to disagree. i just know that there is no way in hell any b18a motor with beat my 2g with whatever it had done to it. i’m just saying, with 5 g’s in a 18a, and 5 g’s in a 16a, its just not gonna happen. its a little thing called vtec
I said “of course not,” as in agreeing with you that the B18A1 engine will never live up to the B16A.
You just read it wrong.
I have a 1.8L with a 4.9
still revs like a street bike, but only to 9200 :bang:
