B18 rebuild help??

I have a 91 GS w/ a B18a that I wrecked recently, but the engine and trans remain in perfect working condition. I recently bought a somewhat crappy 91 LS that I am fixing up. The LS also has the B18A. In my spare time, I would like to try to rebuild the GS B18 to drop into the other car I have.

The problem… I’ve never done an engine rebuild before. I know some of the basics about engines, but when it gets to internals… I’m a little lost. Does anybody know of any rebuild guides or books that could help me with this??? Or do some of the engine rebuild kits come with instuction manuals??

Also, could anyone give me a ball-park on how much it takes to rebuild one of these things. I’m not going all out, no turbo or anything, just mabe a little better quality than stock…

Helm’s manual for your year Integra. Nuff said.

Things to consider if you rebuild your b18a:

–Use OEM parts for head gasket, oil pump, water pump, timing belt, etc
–Make sure to measure bearing clearances correctly
–Make sure to inspect the cylinder bores, and all journal surfaces for imperfections, measure the bores in several places and you shouldn’t be able to catch any scratches with your nail. If bores are ‘out of round’ or scored/scratched, a rebore is necessary as well as oversized pistons, if not, then a simple hone will prep the cylinders for the new rings (OEM or Hastings)

If you want a nice affordable performance gain:

–install PR3 or P30 pistons, you can affordably raise your compression to 10.8-1 or 11-1. I bought my PR3 pistons in great shape for $60
–Use ARP rod bolts and have the large end of the rod resized at machine shop. This will address the weak stock rod bolts
–Rocket Motorsports sells some single valve spring kits for $150 for the head that will allow you to run more aggressive cams like the Crower 404’s ($250 used), that would compliment the raised compression
–ACL bearings seem to have a good reputation and offer the B18a a tri-metal design bearing, like the stock GSR/ITR bearings for around $80 a set, but check clearances!
–Tune with Chrome/Uberdata or similar on the dyno

I happen to have a B18a and am in the process of buying parts myself for my scheduled rebuild at 300K miles, should be in a few months. 286K now and still runs great. With the raised compression, aggressive cams, and some good tuning, 160-170 whp is expected with decent bolt ons.

A few searches of some b18a rebuilds would of found you all this, I was just in a chatty mood :blah: :blah: , good luck. :blah: :blah:
