B18A1 swap for a B18B1???

So here it is I over heated my engine and warped the cylinder head!!! Idiot!! Any ways so now Im looking for a new engine I am having the hardest time find a B18A1 motor for my 91 integra. There are however alot of B18B1 motors online. My question is if I swap the motors can I keep my transmission? I know that the B18B1 motors use a hydro clutch and mine is a cable clutch? is that the only difference or are the motor mounts different??? Also where can I find good used motors that are not crap? alot of the places I have seen online are junk and over priced please let me know any advice is apreciated.

I have a B18B1. I re-used as many of the original components as possible including the transmission, mounts, wiring harness, ecu, axles, sensors, etc just to make it easy.

The A1 and B1 are the same really, its everything that bolts to them that got changed over the years.

Think of it as just a swap of the block and head. I got my 99 engine for $550 and that was a few years ago locally at a salvage yard. It even had an exedy flywheel, bonus.

im not sure bout that but i have a 92 gs with a b18a1 that i was actually planning on selling, im looking to upgrade to the b18c. if ur not interested sorry that i posted. good luck

So basically the motor mounts and wiring are different?!? well that makes it a little bit more indepth.plus I would probobly have to change the tranny as well because I dont have a hydro clutch? Thanks for the posts I am only really intersted in buying a motor will a warranty other wise im out money again. but thanks for the offer. Any one else got any ideas they wanna shoot at me?

Use the mouts for you year of chassis, where they bolt onto the block is the same. My 99 B18B did not have the hole threaded for a bolt so I couldn’t use the front mount witch is used to prevent the engine from twisting in the chassis. I used poly mounts that didn’t even include the front mount and its not an issue since they are so beefy.

If you are looking for easy keep the engine wiring and ECU as OBD0. This is what I did and I purchased all new sensors, oil seals, thermostat, timing belt, water pump, all the coolant hoses along with several other things since I was digging so deep. I kept the original cable style transmission so the axles remained the same. I also re-used used the original intake manifold and throttle body. You could use the stock exhaust but please for the love of crap at least get some type of header.

If you get a 93-95 B18B it will be OBD1 one and you would at least need to swap the harness, ECU, distributor and possibly the O2 sensor if you wanted to run the OBD1 ECU witch is nicer to have for tuning. There is a lot of info on this board for OBD1 conversions. You can even get a wiring harness that adapts your stock harness to the OBD1 ecu.

96-01 engines were OBD2 and it would be similar to the OBD1 swap but probably cost a bit more since there is no conversion harness available and there are more sensors involved.

All the 93-01s had a hydraulic transmission. You can adapt these to work, try searching for hydraulic transmission conversion.

Swaps are fun.:cross: This is not all the info you need but its a good start. Do your homework and all should go well.

Thanks for the info I will probobly just buy a 93-95 engine and keep it some what simple. any other ideas would be appreciated
