b18b build ...

hey i was thinking about boosting a b18b but my friend said it would be better to do this …

he said buy all thisand i will be set …

newer b18b (motor only)
b16a head
type-r internals
vtec killer cams
fuel rail
fuel pressure regulator
fuel pump
bigger injectors
safc
and get it tuned really good …
along with the minor bolt ons exhaust, intake, headers

he said doing all that should give me like around 230hp … he said its going to be real pricey but way worth it … cause in the end it will be a k20 killer …but all depends on the products, size of injectors, and how good a tune it is … so what do you guys think …

also i wanted to know what all i need to have all type-r internals … so if someone could make a list that would be really helpfull … trying to make a checklist out to see what all im looking at and how much its gonna run … thanks

There is a forced induction forum for these questions. But, if I were you, I would do a compression test and maybe a leak down test to determine the condition of the block you have. If the numbers are fine, boost it.

Another option is to rebuild your engine instead of buying another. For the same amount of money (if you do the work), you can have a ‘like new’ block with fresh rings and bearings that will be more suited to boost.

oh, yeah i didnt know to post it in here or that … cause its about boost but also about building a motor … and i just figured buy a newer motor and build it so i can still drive my car and once im done building it just drop it in … i’ll prob do the whole compression test and everything first though … also some people said i should just boost it cause it would be more hp and less money … then said the killer cams arent meant for street or for a DD … cause im gonna be driving this one for like a month or two once its built then buying a ek hatch for a DD …

you would be lucky to hit 200whp with that. it takes a hell of alot more than that to make 230 actual all motor whp.

first things you need to change is the type-r internals that stuff is for girls, you need 12.0+ compression, at least a 2 liter, a shitload of good quality head porting, and the correct cams for the powerband your looking for ex JUN 3 for some nice top end. and expect to hit around 225/165ish whp/tq with that basic setup.

and killer cams are not meant for the street, your gas mileage is going to go to shit.

scratch the fuel rail off your list, stockers flow up to 450hp, and just a little info for ya, you shouldnt be saying “safc” and “get it tuned really well” in the same sentence, get some hondata if you want to make some real power.

safc=garbage.

and 1 last thing, megan racing or DC Sports headers arent going to make the power you want, theres a reason those pieces of shit tubular stock manifold knock-offs cost $300, and a hy-tech, SMSP, or any other high quality header costs $1000+

yeah you guys can prob. tell i dont know that much about motors … thats why i ask about stuff my friends say jsut to see what other people think … cuase i wanan get something that will be worth it …

whats a good setup to do with this … and would this be a good platform to work on for either all motor or for a turbo setup

b18b1
gsr head
gsr tranny

throw me some suggestions that you think would be a good setup to get so i can get between 2-300hp…
i wanna get my moneys worth on something that will last for awhile…

you will never get your money’s worth without boost or juice.

your budget should determine your goals, nothing else.

if a turbo is too expensive dont even think about going all motor.

LS stock internals can handle 225whp easily, and it would only take low boost to get there. thats the cheapest route for quick HP. if you do it right you probably still wont feel like you got your moneys worth.
