The B18B’s have an ECTSwitch just like your stock engine, but maybe in a different location. Find it and plug the connector in, extend wires if you have to.
anyone have some more input into this?
bump i wanna kno how to fix this problem as well. my car has same problem
anyone?
Well here’s your answer… on 1990-1993 b18a1’s there were 2 ect’s where as the b18b only has one. The second ect is MUCH different looking than the typical 2 prong style round small gray/green/ white clip that you see. It is much BIGGER I think it has a black rubber cover on it. The solution to this is quite easy.
WAHLAH…
I am sure I can come up with some more clever ways to do this… but that is the bottom line.
1990-1993 has 1 circuit per ECT per fan (a/c and radiator fans accordingly) and the 94+ has one ECT for both circuits.
You can check your helms and your haynes on this for verification.
Done SEVERAL obd1/2a/2b swaps into DA/EF chasis.
so does this make the rad fan turn on automatically when its too hot ?
or do you mean a manual switch that i turn on/off in the cabin?
well there is 2 answers… one will come on when it is hot the other… (the switch option) will come on with a switch the last will be when you turn the key to the on position it will be on… so you have decide what you are willing to do and what you really want to happen…
I will tell you that wiring it up with both ckts on the one ect will take alot more work to do properly… My suggestion is to wire it to the ignition and just remember it is on when you put your key in the on position… it won’t get hot again though…
i have mine set to a power supply that only comes on when the key is in the on2 position and when the car is running, also i have a switch so i can turn it off if i want to. It automatically turns off when the car is shut off no matter what and thats been working for me.
i currently have it wired to the ignition, so the fan goes on whenever the car is on.
i was wondering if there is a way to wire it so the fan only goies on when its hot enough and if you had the wiring diagram or method to do this ?
thanks again
If you don’t want to use the factory sensors and relays, you can buy an aftermarket temp sensor at the auto parts store that is like a probe that goes into the radiator fins. When the radiator reaches a certain temp, the fans kick on. They are located near the aftermarket fans at your local auto parts store.
