are the usdm engines actually 160hp compared to the jdm 180hp? what components of the jdm makes it pump out that much more hp? is it possible to get the 180hp out of the USDM so that you don’t have to worry about smog checks?
thanks.

Higher compression ratio. It’s actually 170HP for US B18C1.
usdm is more like 170-175, i forget exactly.
i think the only difference is compression ratio. 10:1 usdm, and 10.6:1 jdm
damn, beat me to it elmer

USDM = 170hp
JDM = 180ps (which is about 178hp)
Not a whole lotta difference there.
and dont the JDM equivalent GSR’s have better camshafts?

That’s how I understood it. ![]()
CR would make a difference as well though.
arent the valvetrain components different as well? along with different im and exhaust man
it was my understanding that the cams and manifolds were the same. maybe you guys are getting confused with the b18c vs the b18c-R which does have better cams and manifolds.
its quite conceivable that a .6 jump in compression could yield about 8hp
