ok i got a b20 in my 1990 acura integra and want it to know if it will work nice with a J1 b16 tranny… i know the gears are very short but when should i tap out?
ull have a low top speed
otherthan that accerlation is awesome
i had a ls with the gsr ys1
and it was fun as hella with cams: and other goodiesP
yeahh im going build b20 and i dont like the LS tranny that much because of how long the gears are so yeahh… what RPMs will i be at when i hit 80mph
With a J1, between 4,500 and 5,000 depending on your tire size. Not exactly where you want to be cruising in a B20.
stock ratio tire size
the j1 will be around 4200-4300 since its not as short as the gsr ys1
crusing at 4500-5000 is fine with me:P
i did it everynight from sj >port if u know what i mean:P
back then
still all good
not to mention very fun:P
195s with 55 15s on some SI rims… so about 4200 to 4300 sounds not that bad… do you guys know when i will tap out?
RPM 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th
500 2 4 5 7 9
1000 5 8 11 14 18
1500 7 11 16 21 27
2000 10 15 22 29 36
2500 12 19 27 36 45
3000 14 23 33 43 54
3500 17 26 38 50 63
4000 19 30 43 57 72
4500 22 34 49 64 82
5000 24 38 54 72 91
5500 26 41 60 79 100
6000 29 45 65 86 109
6500 31 49 71 93 118
6800 33 51 74 97 123
this is with GSR YS1 ratio, the j1 is a tad longer
so about 130 ish i would say
that sounds good to me… =) thanx for the info.
i got a b20z2 with a s1 jdm b16 trans and i redline 7krpm in 5th gear going about 112mph it really sucks on gas but its awesome when you can pull hard in every gear
damnnn!!! only 112 thats nothing lol i dont think i would like that haha
yah but what can u do with a free b16 trans and the ls i had before had no second gear and third was going so yah swapped it out for free from a friend that has a fully built b18c1 runnin 13.1:1 cr on 114 octane on a DA with extra trans layin around also a b18a lol but yah if i can find another ls trans ill gladly swap it back in besides everything in hawaii is so close together dont really matter unless your traveling from one side of the island to the other on the freeway. so yah maybe when i get up to arizona ill try to look for one cuz damn to drive from Cali to Arizona is gonna be a bitch with this trans
Well, I have been running my J1 for over (3) years in my all-motor LSVtec (240whp+). Being that I run tight road courses, it winds up being a perfect match (along with a 7.5ib flywheel) …But, if you are looking for overall street use, you can just swap the 5th gear from an S1/YS1/A1 LS trans to the J1. I have done so with my second J1, which I use for the street.
There are plenty of write-ups on the process and it is fairly easy. If you do not feel comfortable doing so, Gear Speed is a great option.
