Are b20b good engines for auto x?
Anything good or bad
it would be fun, always been my dream. i dont see anything bad
Being that the motor is out of an SUV, it might put you into a different class… definitely need to check into that if it’s something you’re seriously considering.
Autocross classes are stupid so you will be put in a very high class out the back before you can even really learn.
I would like to try it out. But I’m talking performance wise.
A lot of people tell me to get a high reving engine like a b16,or type r. That the b20b won’t hang.
What do you mean?
Read up on rules then you’ll see what I mean.
i personally would never autox a b20b just because the cylinder cant handle the abuse. but just going out to track days and learning about road course and the base of racing the b20 would be fine or any stock motor for that matter. when u start, youll only want more power and response. when u get that youll end up with something other than a b20b. imo.
I have around 10 track days on my b20b this year with no problems. I actually love the torque and midrange coming out of turns. Only thing I would recommend is checking your valve clearance after every few events.
yea i was gonna say i’d autox the shit out of a b20 for the bottom and midrange, if it breaks build it again with stronger parts
Don’t over-rev a healthy B20 and it will be fine. The cylinder design is weak to a point, but that is typically experienced with increased cylinder pressure (ie, turbo).
