B20B Longblock different btwn B18A

Existing brackets and mounts are not usable. Have to use all the b18a pieces.

Crank pulley and all the other pullies are unuseable. They are bigger in diameter and power steering pully is ribbed instead of a V.

Valve cover has a hole for the pcv hose instead of the IM

IM is totally unusable

Dipstick is too long, won’t fit under hood

No Breather box

i’ll add more later

yhe cylinder walls on the b20 are also thicker than the b16/17/18a/b/c(1-5) in stock form

i’m interested in swapping my nonvtec 1.8 out for a nonvtec b20. i don’t really know much about the swap or the output of the motor. is going b20 better than the other motors out there, power and price ratio-wise? i’ve tried searching the web for comments on b20’s but they’re pretty hard to find. could you guys please educate me on b20’s and how to swap them in with my stock 1.8 parts. thanks.

Depending on what block you get the IM CAN be used… some have the “giraffe” style and some have the normal style… so that does differ a bit

I used the IM/TB and dipstick on the b20 and they work fine.

Ben

The B20 walls are 2mm thinner you mean. Or the B18 walls are 2mm thicker.

B20B Swap!!!

I’m doing the same swap wut will I have to keep and use to complete this swap?

wasn’t the overall walls thicker to compensate for the bore. BUT where each cylidner met in the middle. it was 2MM thinner because, well. they didn’t want to reesign the block and space the cylidners the same amount the made the walls thicker?

i have ctr pistons and i was thinking of doing b20 swap is the diameter of the b18 and teh b20 the same (sorry for the stupid question)

no. b18 == 81mm. b20b/z == 84mm.

Ben

if I used a B20 or b18b valve cover, it has a spot for the PCV valve on the cover, not on the intake mani like the b18a. So could I just hook the PCV valve up to the valve cover and run the hose to the cooresponding portion of the intake mani?
anyone get what I’m saying…eliminate the PCV from the lower intake mani and relocate it to the valve cover of the b18b/b20?

thats exactly it, the b20 or b18b dont have the little air box, so you have no choice. it’s not like it’s hard, you take the pcv valve from your b18a (cause the hose is longer) and you hook it up the VC instead of the IM…that simple.

ummmmmm… this thread hasn’t been touched since february…

sorry only noticed that after i wrote a comment…my bad
