bad battery drain...HELP!!!!

Hey guys I have this problem that the battery drains in like couple of days after full charge and it wont turn over…but when i jump the battery the motor cranks right over…so I figured that the battery is draining some how…I also have a new battery a month old and it drained that out as well…I tried searching and looking over some old battery drain threads but didnt find much help…what can possibly be wrong any help is really appreciated thanks guys

Did you test to see if your alternator is charging? When you start your car and it’s idling, unhook the ground cable to the battery and if the car dies, the alternator is most likely bad… if not, then it’s fine.

You do know Kragen checks your car’s charging system for free right… take it there and have them take a look.

As mentioned, have the system checked, any alt./batt. shop will do it for free, it only takes a few min.

Do you have any aftermarket equipment in the car?

You have checked to make sure trunk/hatch light is not on, right?

Do you have a multimeter or 12V test light?

A quick easy test with a test light or any 12V bulb is to disconnect a batt. cable, [make sure everything is off in the car] and install the test light or bulb in series, if it lights up you have a draw.

To find the circuit that is drawing the power start pulling fuses, one by one, [don’t forget to turn off the dome light] when the test light/bulb goes out you have found the circuit that is drawing the current. 94

Can you explain this a little further. Where do you hook up the light to? one end to the positive terminal and the other end to ? or what?

Disconnect one of the batt. leads and the light goes in series with the lead and the batt. post, so current has to go through the bulb.

If you have a 12V test light you would disconnect a batt. lead connect the test lights ground terminal to the batt. post and the test lights probe to the cable, if there is any draw the test light will light up. 94

ahhh ic ic, thanks,

i only have 1 concern, have you ever used this method before on a da? i ask because there might not be any time that there is absolutely no current draw, even in stock form from the factory. I have no idea if this is true and therefore that’s why i ask.

I use this method on all cars that come into the shop with “batt. problems”, if the test light comes on the draw is too high, no matter what, [new car old car, with/without aftermarket add ons].

Yes there is always a drew, memory for clock, radio stations/HU settings, ECU memory, but all of them together do not draw enough to turn on the test light.

Yes we also have $2500 of test equipment that will do the same thing and more, [give us accurate info] but as an initial test a batt. wrench and a test light will tell us a lot. 94

thanks alot for explaining it further
