Where’s the MAP sensor? I have a CAI on there, and only one of the hoses is connected to the bunghole, the other one is sitting open in the engine bay without any hoses leading to it, but I don’t think this should matter much since it would just be sucking air from within the intake, anyway, and even when I had the stock airbox on I was getting bad MPG.
On the drivers side of the firewall. It has a vacuum hose going from it to your intake. Check all of those hoses. I’m pretty sure anything vacuum is needed. If it’s not, and isn’t being used, it should be capped off.
like everybody says.replace the o-ring.for best gas mealiege don’t go over about 50speed limit.
The ONLY hoses that go to the actual intake is from the dashpot valve and air boost valve, both on the intake manifold, and breather tube from the valve cover. There is nothing on the firewall that goes into an intake.
Right…like that would be remotely possible here on Ca. freeways where speed limit is 65… :bang:
Or on the streets where it is 35-40.
Hmm i used to get 400 miles out of my tank after I replaced my spark plugs but then lately I’m around the 300 mark. I am wandering if you detach the fuel feed line from the fuel rail and detach the vacuum hose and fuel return hose from the fuel pressure regulator to get this done as my integra repair manual says, would it cause me to spill gas all over?
How do you replace the o-rings and cushion rings safely is my question in a nutshell.

Pinch the hoses if anything, grab a friend to help out.
well i also suggest the whole o-ring replacement and double checking the drain hole thing. but don’t u think its possible ur running rich? cuz u smell fuel from the exhaust end which means ur motor isn’t burning it up. prolly from an excess, or poor spark. double check that o2 sensor tho, just cuz its new doesn’t mean it can’t be defective. and yea check all ur vacuum lines, u could have a vacuum leak which is throwing something off. definitely still think ur leaking too tho. might wanna just sit outside ur car while its running, and look around for leaks. have a buddy help u out and check both ends of the car looking and smelling for the source.
Definately sounds like I’m running rich, I don’t lose any gas with the car off or anything. Spark should be fine, unless I got the wrong plugs? I believe they’re NGK platinums, I gapped them to manual spec and paired them up with some kragen wires to freshen that up. I might just get some soapy water over all my hoses to check for vacuum leaks. Which hoses should I check for?
ummm it might be easier to get a vacuum gauge…but i dunno how much they are, they aint’ much, and all u gotta do is hook it up instead of checking each hose. but u could do that too =)
im having the same problem in my teg, i used to get 320 to 350 out of a tank but latley im only getting 280, max, i have replaced the plugs and gapped them to 44 thousandths like the auto parts told me. i went from regular ngk plugs to boush premium, not the 2 or 3 prong plugs but just a single one. i resently filled up with some 93 octane gas for the track but that was weeks ago and now i have to fill up twice a week almost. i can fill up sunday but the thrusday or friday i have to put $15 in to make it the rest of the week. i shift at 3k usually never above 4 unless im getting on the interstate. it seems like the problem started when i put a new cat on my car. im goin to put my test pipe back on after my inspection this month bc it seemed to be at 300 when i had that on
take out those bosch plugs and put ngk plugs in, and you do realize that ethanol is mixed with gas at 10%? meaning it burns off more than gas.
i did know that about the ethanol, so thats probally y its going thru more gas? and y would the spark plugs cause the bad gas i thought newer plugs would actually help it… ill put the other plugs in and see it thats the source of my problems
You need good spark to correctly process the fuel. Think about it, if you’re just burning off the ethanol in the gasoline you’re hurting your engine, and making it run hotter, vs. being able to ignite both and having a clean burn.
hmm, but y would the plugs i have in there just cause the ethanol to burn more and not as much of the gas
Ethanol burns hotter and has a lower combustion point, if I’m not mistaken.
I 2nd the spark plugs. Get rid of the Bosch, and get urself some NGK or Denso basic plugs. (1-2 dollar ones) There’s no need for the upgraded plugs on ur basically stock car. Some higher grade plugs may actually be worse for your cars performance.
actually, nvm. lol
You’re mistaken. Ethanol reduces combustion temperatures and has a higher octane rating.
I’m having a really bad problem. I have to put in at least $20-30 worth of gas twice a week.
I wont let it get past half a tank very often, and I only get around 200km to half a tank of gas … ~124 miles. So that woould make about 400km (250mi) to a tank of gas.
Fuel filter was change not 20000km ago. Checked the air filter. They’re both basically brand new. Sub-filter is a little dirty. Not leaking gas. Distributor cap and all the wiring was replaced last summer, along with the spark plugs.
And it warms-up for not even 5 min a day when its even cold out. I havent done that since last week.
Also, I dont drive it hard. I shift at 3k or less. I dont make hard accelerations. When I’m cruising on a street I’ll be running at about 1.75k to 2.25k. I’ve been trying to be very conservative up until last night, when I decided that since I’m getting nothing for gas mileage, might as well enjoy myself a bit while I’m driving.

Same issue I’m having, my driving style doesn’t matter, the only difference on my whole tank is like 10 miles.
