1990 LS A/T
i swapped the transmission out on this car and rebuilt the head, restored the interior. Almost done.
The car idles perfectly warm and cold when its in P or N even in R but when in D at first gear idling it drops down to about 300Rpm.
Anybody have a clue why it idles low only in gear, its fine in reverse but first gear almost kills it.

are you sure the idle is set right? more info, does it drive fine? no dieing, bogging, etc?

the first dash mark on the tach is 500. Any lower, your needle wouldn’t move.
it drops below 500, and sputters until i throw it into N. If i leave it it will die.
Other than idling in first it idles fine so i don’t want to mess with idle adjustment screw or throttle cable.
Checked vacuum hoses and IACV/HITV no problems.
I was told there are two vacuum hoses leading to the trans but without removing a bunch of stuff i found one?
Idles just fine in P, N, R, D when cold…
only bad (low and bogging) in D when warm.
