Bad short RAM

I installed a short RAM intake and lost 1 second of my quarter mile. Piece of crap!

i know huh.

You mean you gained a second? What’s going on here?

Nope. Lost it.

:stare:

Oh okay, in that case, you are either lying, or your driving just improved immensly.

Huh? You mean my driving must have gotten worse.

He means that he installed it, and that his 1/4 went from say 16 seconds to 17. I find it hard to believe that any short-ram intake would make you lose a second off your 1/4 mile. You probably just suck more at driving.

If he lost a second, then he’d be faster. Either way, there is something fishy here, and it’s not the intake.

Ok, wait. My fault. I should have said “gained” a second. But to my mind it’s “losing” I guess.

So I “gained” a second. This is an average after multiple runs.

The only other difference beside the filter was, say, a quarter tank of petrol more.

And don’t tell me it’s my driving because it’s an automatic, there’s not a whole lot one can do differently, I don’t think.

how long has it been between runs? Maybe you put some wear on the motor and its not pushing as hard as it should. Theres no possible way that an intake makes you lose a second off a 1/4. You either did something wrong driving or maybe u installed it wrong. Its not the intake though.

It’s only been about a month between runs. At first I thought I was getting more hp (probably because it sounded cool) but those numbers just don’t lie.

It’s like I just can’t seem to get the same power off the line.

did you take a pre-race dump? that always seems to help me out.

how about differences in the weather between those days  humid or not? hot or cold? or your tires?..maybe you couldn’t get a good launch that day or your tires have gone bald or have a difference in psi.
not taking a pre race dump could be the culprit

:werd:

a word of advice, you lose torque with a short ram, which honda’s already lack. try getting a cold air.

Even if that is true, I doubt it matters. Think about how much difference a CAI actually makes on a Honda in the first place. I seriously doubt that any torque losts is even noticable.

although its not much of a difference, its a bit noticable. I noticed a difference on my teg switching from stock to short ram to cold air. I seriously doubt you will gain/lose a full second from it though.

Did you take the plastic off the filter?

Well, I replaced the stock intake and tried it again.

My time improved by a few tenths of a second, but not the whole lost second. That might be explained because this time I had a full tank of gas.

So I am faster with a stock intake and full tank of gas, then a RAM and almost no gas.
