Baking Soda on damp carpet. ok??

My car get semi flooded and i shop vac’d most of the water out. The carpet is still damp and i poured baking soda on the back carpet.

Was this a stupid move? Will it turn mushy and be hard to get off?

Thanks for the help.

Depends on how much you like mold.

Pull the carpet and clean it.

You might get away with a really hot day with all the windows, sunroof and hatch open.

why baking soda? that shit is for stuff that stinks. shoulda used something that shops use to soak up liquid. in my auto class we used sawdust, woulda been easy to shop vac it out once it was all soaked up too.

It seems like the baking soda will be a pretty easy cleanup. I read that it gets rid of odors and soaks up liquids so I figured I would give it a shot because I can’t leave my windows open all day when I am at work incase it rains.

Should I worry about mold and getting some sort of crazy respiratory infection or is that more of a problem in places without ventilation?

Thats called “farmers lung”. Its in the dictionary. When I’ve got dampness problems, say from spilling my beer due to radical moves, I find a big box fan and high wind speed dry anything better than organics alone.

I have to agree with N tegra. if it was a lot of liquid i would definatly recomend pulling out the carpet and making sure its dry before you put it back in.

as for the baking soda. i personaly would of used just the shop vac and let it bake in the sun for a couple of hours.
