Got my rack in…the valve body was painted with shitty paint and was flaking so I repainted it real quick. I also gutted the valve body, and put everything back together. I have to order some bushings for the rack also. I really need the passenger side that wraps around the rack. I also ordered some split loom and small braided sheathing for ithe wires from the main harness in the engine bay just to give it a cleaner look anyway onto some pics
I know you guys don’t care but I’m gonna update this just for my own little journal for the car.
So, my car is a 93 Integra but somehow was converted to obd0 like fully harness and all. Anyhow, I cut all the plugs for abs out and got the passenger side main harness pulled out and sorted. I just need to figure out what some plugs are and loom accordingly.
Abs shit
Before
After
Driverside done
So once thats done, moving onto tucking the brakes and building the bottom end.
I need a good dial bore Guage and 2 to 3 inch od micrometer.
Also, rack bushings have been ordered so that should be going in in the next week or two.
They are Truhart camber kits and I wanna say I paid $165 for them and it’s said that the use hard race bushings. As far as adjustability I think you can max them out around 4 or 5 degrees of negative camber I think I had mines set just around -2 up front and -3 out back with no camber kit in the rear. I think they are quality for the price, they are pretty thick too. When I drive on them it did have a dramatic affect on the cars drivability due to the ucas on before being shot. But I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another set.
cheers, they seem to be pretty good quality for the price
did you find out the fitting sizes too? i just reused the stock fittings and clamped hoses on but with no fluid and put a heap of grease on the rack itself.
Also I used some washers to shim the little piston inside the valve box. It seemed really loose in there and heaps of play when turning the steering shaft, after shimming this tightened right up. never have installed it back into a car however so dont know what kind of difference this makes
Yeah I like them man. I honestly used two fittings I got from Lowe’s haha. I wanna say the biggest is m16x1.5 then the next largest is m14x1.5 and then the two that are right next to each other I believe Are m12x1.5. I had bought a m10x1.0 and that was too small so I went two mm up to m12 so hopefully that works. Im waiting on the fittings currently but when I get them I’ll let you know.
As far as shimming the valve inside the valve body, elborate on that…I don’t want a loose steering rack when it goes back in
And also the rack was rebuilt and all I did was pull the valve body apart and gut it…do I have to grease the actual rack up itself? Or is it fine with whatever little bit of fluid is left inside the rack?
I feel like I heard manual racks use molly lube but I don’t want to take a rack apart that doesn’t need to be taken apart to grease everything if it doesn’t need it. if it does, I’ll do it but I don’t know so what do you guys think?
in all honesty I have no idea if it needs greasing or not. figured it couldnt hurt and should last a bit longer than the really thin fluid which i drained out completely I only put the grease on the pinion and rack where you can access it easily- not pulling the whole rack body apart which is a pain I believe.
Im not much help I know, but cant remember exactly how I shimmed it, it was just trial and error but seemed to remove virtually all slop just playing with it on the bench.
okay I gotcha, I see it says if you remove all the various parts that it would cause a lot of slop in the rack. So, when you say at either end of the 4 way valve do you mean that you had these small washers at the end of the valve or the washer set around it? sorry I’m just a bit confused haha
What’s up g2ic. Progress has been slow but it’s because I’ve been trying to get my daily sorted. Cars been on the back burner for a minute now but come fall/winter the engine will be fully going together.
As for now I just finished looming the rest of the in bay portions of the main harness. It was dark so sorry for the bad pics and dirty car
Thanks man! Always good to hear good words! It’s definitely a slow project as of now because I’m somewhat focused on my civic for a daily and getting that thing right…every time I buy something for it I wish it was the da I was buying stuff for haha
What’s up g2ic. Haven’t touched the car too much been working on my daily and overall just busy and you know how the rest goes.
So, I pretty much pulled the rest of the front suspension, control arms, struts, knuckles, crossmember and all that good stuff.
Plans are to get the suspension stuff painted/coated
New bushings and bearings pressed for the front hubs.
Im also planning to get a innovative traction bar for downpipe clearence and well traction haha.also planning on por-15ing the wheel wells.
What’s up guys…I know the threads sort of die off on here and I’ve been neglecting my da and just been busy with life as always.
any how my daily consumed a lot of my time and I had a bride seat and some wheels on it and went to a couple msu car meets in michigan.
As far as the da goes, I for the most part have finished wiring and tucking the headlight harnesses. I’m planning on running some sort of custom dash as I’m going to be getting rid of the heat since the car will only be driven in the Nice weather.
Also, I decided to purchase injectors, I went with some bosch 550cc injectors. I didn’t want to over pay for what I needed got them for just under 200. I was debating in between rc’s, evo 8 low impendance red top 550cc injectors, oside tiger 750cc or Siemens deka 630cc high impedance injectors. I just went with the slightly cheaper option and they have a ev1 style plug which will work great for my obd0 injector clips. I think I screwed one of them up so I might wire in new pig tails.
reason I went this route was because I didn’t want to worry about the whole resistor thing and I’m converting the car to obd1 so unsure on how it would of worked out.
I ordered a couple things aswell
-new injector prints for the manifold
-2 10an bungs for the valve cover
-b20b valve covery
-valve cover gasket with spark plug seals
-dimes performance shift knob
-new valve cover bolts
-oem intake manifold gasket
everything is not in yet either
now here are a couple picures
Hey hey man It’s life bro years get long a little bit every day goes a long way, or even week, I force time it’s so precious with a family lol, your doing good kid, you keep it up, hey Ima text you what car I seen today super sick
what’s up guys. so basically my one pieces were shitty so I’m sending them back and literally once I figured that out I bought a really clean set.
then I went ahead and ordered a flywheel just a new stock replacement nothing special. reason for that was because I need my flywheel to have every thing balanced at the machine shop.
also, I ordered a booster and master cylinder from an rs to get this brake tuck underway.
things are going to slow down as to the physical car but more focused on the motor and transmission during the cold season. I will be gathering parts as well like motor mounts, clutch, wideband, ect, ect.
Also I jb-welded the fittings to my valve cover and it came out pretty well. sturdy. anyhow, here’s some pics of the top end.
