I’ve done some searching for b18b blocks for LS/VTEC and b18c1 blocks for just a good ol’ build up but most suppliers only sell complete swaps(and are anal about that) and as you guys know we can’t use the hydro trannies. Other than the partstrader and ebay, do any of you guys know of good places to buy just longblocks, shortblocks, or even bare blocks? Ideally a place that would sell a longblock and tranny that weren’t originally together(ex. b18c1 long block with a JDM Y1 cable tranny). I’m looking for a trustworthy place that carries a warranty or guarantee and sells good working engines whether it be a shop or an individual working out of their house. Hook us all up please!! TIA.
Wow, both sites have b20 longblocks for $800, not bad. I’d really like to find a place that has b18c1 longblocks. Keep the links coming guys. It might be benificial to archive this thread if we get enough good sites listed.
the one i posted has b18c long blocks…u have to call for prices…

How much was shipping for you? I am wondering what it would cost to get a b20 long block shipped to south carolina from this place. Any idea? Shipping is usually around $300 for a complete swap at most places so would it be correct to think it would be about half that for just a long block?
Shipping cost me $300 to Ohio from hondamotorsonline.com. A word of warning though, be present when the motor is dropped off to sign for it yourself. Steve (the owner) has had two instances that I know of (myself included) where his shipping company has dropped the motor and damaged the oil pan. He gladly replaced and fixed everything but the shipping company needs a thorough bitching out if the motor arrives in this condition.
Having a digi-cam on hand helps, as you can show the motor distributor the damage first hand if such an event happens.
Mojo, it cost you $300 to ship just the longblock? I sent hondamotorsonline an email last night to see if they had or could sell me a b20 shortblock or a cable vtec tranny outside of a swap so we’ll see how that goes.
Leeo, what tranny are you using with the B20B? Am I correct thinking that a hydro tranny has to be used with the B20B? Or can the clutch just be replaced with a cable clutch. I’m not sure how these things work.
Ben
A cable tranny will work just fine for a b20 or any other b-series block for that matter. There’s a whole mess of work to do when installing a hydro tranny into our cars so it’s better to go with a cable tranny anyway. As for the clutch, I dunno. I know it depends on if you have a 90-91 or a 92-93.
I have a 90. I was just reading the thread about 90-91 clutch vs 92-93 with Dan and Chingro or whatever. Pretty entertaining. So I would have to change the clutch for a 92+ part so it would fit the newer motor? Er… uh is that only if I have a 92+ transmission. I think that’s it. You can validate my thoughts. Thanks.
Ben
The transmission determines what type of clutch you will use not the engine. All B-series engines accept the same transmissions including hydro trannies and cable trannies (although hydro trannies are not practical to put into our chassis).
And yes, the motor cost $300 to ship because I had them unload it with a liftgate. Steve charged me $50 for the lift gate delivery and I found out from the shipping company that they only would have charged me $25. It’s up to you if you want to tell the engine distributor ahead of time you need a lift gate and possibly get overcharged, or ask the shipping company when they are ready to deliver your engine.
Whitey… VTEC?? shame on you boy!!
just kidding. If it didn’t cost so much more for all the aftermarket goodies, I would have done it too 2nd time around. Wait a second, I haven’t even put any of my nonvtec goodies in yet!!!
