belt noise

I have this annoying belt squeel coming from the engine compartment for a few months. I tried the belt dressing, it didn’t really work.
The noise is louder when the engine is cold.
It gets worse if I brake at idle. If I use E brake then it is doesn’t get worse.

I am told to tighten the belts. I tightened one belt that can be reached by opening the hood. There is one more belt underneath it which I don’t know how to tighten.

The belts seek to be OK. I never replaced them ever since I bought this car. It had 100k miles when I bought this car. It has about 138 now.
Please advise if you happen to know how to cure this problem.
Thanks

If it gets worse when you turn on your headlights… it’s most likely the alternator belt…
if it gets worse while turning the steering wheel- p/s belt…
turning on a/c… ac belt … but not always because your idle will also drop

Tightening up the belts should help…

Squeeling could be a loose belt. Refasten all the belts again, TIGHTER this time.

Including the power steering belt, AC belt, Alternator belt.

er my bad, pretty boy answered it.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Further analysis revealed the following:
On the scale of 1 to 5 where 5 being the worst.
Idle, No brakes: 1
Idle, Brakes(ie at a slope or stop light) 3
Idle, brakes, heater fan on low to medium: 4
Idle, brakes, heater fan high: 5
Idle, E brakes: 1

Crawling in Ist gear in Traffic: 2
Crawling in 2nd grear: 3
Head lights on and off don’t seem to make much difference as I have day lights.

Squeelling noise doesn’t get worse while turning so it is probably not the P/S belt.

My car doesn’t have AC.

Can anyone spot where the problem lies?

Loose alternater belt. I had the same problem, just tighten the alternater belt and that should take care of it.

same here. had to use some leverage to tighten the alt belt
