I just put on all new belts, and they squeak and sound really bad when I start the car, I just have to rev it a couple times and it goes away, but what would cause them to squeak. They seem on right.
Sometimes it s hard to obtain the correct tension on the alt belt especially. I found that all belts tend to loosen up quite a bit after first install. If you think you have the deflection right then they are probalby loose. The alt belt is the one that always squeals after startup due to the load of recharging. The pwr str would squeal most all the time and the a/c would only squeal when the compressor is engaged. i think its just matter of tightening the alt belt some more. 5 minutes and you’d know.

Wouldn’t be your belts squealing then. Overtight would make a howling noise up to a metal to metal noise when the cooling fins start clattering against the housing

Yeah I’m having same problem, guess I’ll go ahead and try to tighten the alt. belt. I replaced the alt belt when swapping my engine but left power steering belt (removed a/c)…
belt dressing maybe? I took off my a/c and p/s belts…
I agree with the belts being too loose.
The last time when I had this problem, I’ll tighten
it a little then start up the car to see if it still squeak.
If it don’t then I’ll leave it alone. But if it does, tighten
it up a little bit more.
