Best turbo setup for a 93 LS...?

ok, im thinkin about a turbo, i just need some input, what kinda turbo are you running? what kind would u get? what kinda filter? what kinda anything? what would you do before u put it on? what kinda pre-work needs to be done on my 162 K engine? post links, ideas, everything, my goal is to get as much info as i can to make sure i know what i want before i buy it, and what i need to do before i put it on, and what kinda stuff ill need after i put it on, like exaughst, and rim sizes and shiz like that, thx in advance

My car specs:

93 GS full interior, stock LS motor with 162 K miles, 151khighway miles for sure, stock 93 GSR wheels, crappy tires

i typed in turbo and got nothing…i mean i still got results, but nothing that i want…anyone have a answer to my question ^ there? im just looking for the best setup i can drive around on. and still race on…i mean ill probly still invest in a boost controller so when do race i could just turn it up

i personaly like turbonetcis products, but thats me, its up to u but i would say go with a t3 its the best size turbo to but on the ls motor, big front mount intercooler, bov, wastegate, turbo timer, piping, oil line, fuel pump, and fpr. u will be running 13s

what products? looking for names for each componet, thx for yer input tho, i just want to know what will work best together and not break on me

Here is my setup:

All the parts I chose to use I found through years or research. Since your motor has 162K on it it will need to be rebuilt. I’d stay away from turbonetics’ wastegate (Deltagate) at all costs, it can turn you motor into a worthless lump of metal. If you have any other specific question just ask.

thats a sick setup, nice car, what ur 1/4 mile?

What dont u like about the delta gates, i know a few people that have them nad they havnt had a problem, what do u knwo that i should know??? or is it just one bad experiance with the deltagate

Haberdasher…Do you have any pics of your engine bay? Also, do you not have an EGT gauge?

I have some bad pictures that I took with a bad digital camera. I’ll use my 35mm over the break to get some good pics.

The bumper damage is going to be fixed over the break too. That’s from when my dad backed his Chevy Blazer (with trailer hitch on) into my car.

I don’t like the Deltagates because they are a poor design and use poor materials in their construction. Everyone I have talked to that had/has one said they wished they never got it. Boost creep and diaphragm ruptures are the 2 biggest gripes I’ve heard. I higher percentage of them seem to fail then other wastegates, a testament to their poor quality.

The Tial wastegates are an excelent alternative to the Deltagates. They use the same flanges as the Deltagates, so you can use them on just about all the Honda turbo manifolds out there. They are also a much better design and use much better materials. They are a good alternative between the Greedy and HKS wastegates ($$$$$$$) and the Deltas. I’ll gladly pay more money for the assurance and peace of mind that I get from running the Tail.

ya i heard about the deltagates too…heh, anyone have any more info on diff turbo brands and stuff like that?

I’m planning on running a turbo ls setup myself. Did you have any trouble installing the front mount intercooler? Also, what psi are you running and what do you consider to be safe psi for a B18A with 90,000 miles on it? Cool setup BTW.

ok, lets put it this way, if you could make the perfect turbo setup for a b18a then what would it be? how would it be done?

ttt

Anyone said, “Archive this” yet? I guess I just did:)

Leif

I’d say my setup is pretty close to perfect (my idea of perfect), I didn’t waste years of research only to buy cheap parts and come up with a kit that doesn’t work. I would/will replace a couple of things though. I will be getting a Zdyne SECU with all the goodies (MAP, injectors…etc) eventually and a AVC-R boost controller. I’ll also be getting a Kiwi or some other tubular turbo manifold. I would have gotten a Rev Hard manifold to begin with instead of the Drag, but the Rev Hards were back ordered for the B18A, it may take as long as a year to get one from Rev Hard.

There were no problems installing the intercooler, I changed the front bumper to a '92-'93 bumper, the car is a '90.

I’m running 10psi on 9.0:1 CR, here is a dyno chart

As for what I consider to be safe psi for a stock B18A with 90,000 miles on it to be is I don’t know. If the motor is in good shape (rings and valve seals etc are good) you could maybe do 8psi max. But the motor will not tolerate any detonation at all. Determine the condition of the internals of the motor first then plan for the turbo.

A couple other turbo manufacturers that come to mind are Mitsubishi and KKK. There are others but I can’t think of their name right now. The problem with going with another manufacturer is that you’ll have to determine all the metrics for the turbo yourself to get the trubo that’ll be best for your motor. That means you’re going to have to look at compressor maps, and most other manufacturers don’t release them. There is no real reason to go with another manufacturer other than Garrett, they make the best turbos in the world.

I’m not running an EGT right now, maybe when I get the SECU I will.

ya id definatly rebuild engine first

Hey Harberdasher do you have any pics of the front of your car with the I/C? Or better yet, a pic with your bumper off so I can see how the I/C fits in there. What size I/C too.

Thanks,
Aron
