Between-seat Cupholder

Placeholder for my design of a dual cupholder that fits alongside the E-brake handle.

you don’t like wedging drinks between the seat and e-brake handle and watching them spill? just kidding, excited for this one as I can’t find an armrest.

The armrests are great but I don’t feel like dropping several hundred on one :-/

yea, sucks not only are they hard to find, but super expensive too.

I be using a rubber plumbing coupler jammed between the parking brake lol. Holds my drinks pretty good. Only works in the automatic cuz no need for the brake lol

Lol, i tried to cut up a 96-00 civic ek arm rest to fit but it was too fat to fit between the auto seatbelt assembly. I know 90-93 accord arm rests fit but can’t find one of those either

I have a general 3D model made but I have not verified any dimensions yet. I was planning on doing that yesterday but instead decided to make the windshield cowl redirector prototype because I’m so sick of dealing with this water intrusion issue.

I’m going to have to get a 3D printer soon I think. Having to wait a week for a prototype sucks.

Prototype sent to printer.

Sneak peak of prototype. Still need to verify clearance.

Uses center console bolts to secure.

Looks awesome

Thanks! This is more difficult. It looks like there’s wiggle room on the ebrake panel to allow for slack of the bolts (it’s an oval hole from OEM). It makes me think that everyone’s plastic piece that may be different. So I’m trying to accommodate that.

Finally got the latest prototype with the cowl parts. I needs some tweaks because I’m not happy with the overhang, but because it’s aligned properly I can actually install it with bolts and see how it works real-world.

Man, you’re doing god’s work out here. Love seeing the progress! Excited to pick this up too when it’s out!!

Nice job, Neal! Anyone who has kids know that there are bound to have crumbs and spills in your car if kids are riding with you. Since mine are now driving age, the new RULE in my DB1 is that NO Eating or Drinking is Allowed in it! Altho cup holders are a nice touch, it’s only inviting trouble. :grimacing:

I hear ya. It sucks going through a drive-thru tho and there’s no place to hold anything.

So I tried to install the cupholder today. First thing I realized is that it would cause a problem if you tried to let people in the back if you have a hatchback (i.e. when you use the seat release to fold the seat forward). It might actually jam when the seatbelt bulkhead hits the cupholder. So that’s something to be aware of.

Also installation the way I have designed it is actually a big pain. Trying to thread 3 things through one hole with one bolt (TWICE) is just awful. I’m going to try to do a “slotted” install design instead: you’d thread the bolts first, and then slide the cupholder in over the bolts, and then tighten.

Prototypes be that way sometimes.

Gonna drive around this week with it.

So even though I was careful, I accidentally snapped this thing moving the seats when I was vacuuming. It works, but I think it’s too accident-prone. I will still offer it if anyone’s interested, but I think I need to come up with a new design that avoids the seatbelt bulkhead.

Sidenote: The attachment point works very well. The part the snapped was where the cupholder part joins with the base.
