Beware of "foam" bump stop in Tokico HP kit.

I have had these struts for a while and were doing fine, but I hit a pothole (if you want to call it that, part of the street was caving in.) and my suspension must have bottomed out really hard. I thought I broke one of the struts because it would not compress anymore. I had planned on replacing the front pair until I took everything apart. I found that the bump stop on the drivers side had gotten smashed into the top of the strut and was actually wedged in between the shaft and the crown piece of the strut preventing the shaft from moving up or down. No big deal, after an hour of poking at the little holes with a jewlers screwdriver and some heat from a mini brazing torch, all of the foam stuff was out and the strut was OK. Then I wondered why make a bump stop out of crappy material like that. It is not rubber and not polyurethane. I think either of those would have maintained their shape somewhat and not cause problems. Anyway, out they go, I just ordered the rubber ones from Acura…

uh arent the original ones foam? i remember when i dropped my car on stock struts, we cut the stock bumpstops and they were foam

I just ordered the stock ones again… they should be here tomorrow. Dang it if they are foam.

Doesn’t Tokico Hps come with a white rubber looking bumpstop?

My Buddy got some and it came with new black bushings for the top hat, and a white bumpstop.

When I bought a ES kit it came with some ES bump stops. When I get to my “drop the car” project, I will be using those. Might see if you can snag some of those from a local shop, or get some online.

i just opened my ES kit today, what bag are the bumpstops in? musthave overlooked them.

Its been ~4 months since I did my suspension, so I really dont remember which bag it was but I bought this: http://www.energysuspensionparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=16.18104&cat=4174

Part Number: 16.18104

They were in the box that those came in. I also bought everything but the dust boots for the tierods on this page: http://www.energysuspensionparts.com/products.asp?cat=4174
Everything in black, because ES says they don’t squeek. (The upper fronts still squeek when its cold)

I got them all at the same time, maybe they threw them in or something. Tonight when I get home, and find some time I will go dig through the box and take some pics of them.

I do remember there was a piece of paper that said something like “Shock bump stop” and something that said to not put any lube on them. if that paper is still in there, I will get the part# and post it too.

yea do that. im sure i can figure it out tho. i got mine in black as well.

Dang it, they are foam…
woulda been nice to get solid rubber bump stops like described in the service manual and on the part description. Next time I’ll get the ES kit.
Well, just beware of foam bump stops regardless who makes them… :bye:

BTW, the new Honda bump stops are white, the last ones were red.

sorry double post
.

I pulled out my box of ES left overs. I have 8 of what I now “think” are the bump stops. I am now not so sure.

Here are 3 pics of them:

I threw a penny in there so you can get an idea of the size of them.

These came in the “Master Kit” I posted earlier, and I have 8 of them. All the bushings have been replaced on my car except the rear uppers, which they don’t make bushing replacements for apparently.

Maybe you use 2 paired for stock ride height, and 1 for lowered ride height.

I am guessing at this point. I do know that there was a piece of paper in the bag these were in (which apparently got thrown away) that talked about bushings in the box being bump stops for the shocks. I am assuming these are them, since they are the only ones left after all other bushings were used.

They look like the bushings for the upper mounts. There’s 2 for each shock.

That makes sense. I was pretty sure they were for the shocks. Just not sure what part of the shock. Thanks for the info, and sorry that I got some peoples hopes up on these being bump stops.
