i was wondering what peoples opinions were of this. im looking for a cheap DVD/LCD screen head unit and i was thinking about the jensen one but it doesnt have any power and i didnt here too many great things.
then i stumbled across this one made by blaupunkt. does anyone have this or know if its worth it. http://www.cardomain.com/item/BLAIVDM7002
If you like it go for it. The price of in-dash DVD players are dropping like crazy. For $700 you CAN get a decent DVD player. For the money though if it doesnt have everything you want maybe save for what you do want or you may regret it. If it has everything you are looking for then get it.
ok i just ordered it from a company called electronixoutlet.com for $570.00 shipped which is a great price because ive done extensive research on this unit and from what i can see the general asking price for this is around 800bucks. i’ll update with pics and some info after im done installing but for 570 this is an awsome unit.
i would def go with alpine, i got mine about a year ago for $400 at 6th ave electronics and then u can get an expansion box that allows u to add just about anything u want to ur system by just pluggin it in to the box. real slick stuff
this was edited: well aside from the visual needs such as screensavers and wallpaper which ur right about most headunits satisfying those needs (but it is a MONITOR unit which visual needs are a big part) this one has many sound options as well. as far as im concerned the only bad thing is that the “brain” i guess you would call it, where all the connections are made is seperate from the actual unit. some of the highlights i like is the detach face which is harder to find especially on cheeper monitors and it also has some code protection as well.- it has dolby processing and even a center unit channel. im sure there are better headunits with a little more power but its got 19watts rms rather then 24 that i was lead to believe before purchasing…never the less 19s not too bad. its got 4v preouts for subs front rear ect. with a full eq and even filters which will help keep the certain freq. out of ur smaller speakers that cant handle them. im sure further down the road if im that unhappy with the sound output i will get an external amp, but i think for the price and features its worth wut i paid,…only time will tell, i’ll take pics and review this item once its in.
Well, typically when somebody is looking for a headunit they’re looking for something sound-quality related (equalizer, inputs, outputs, etc). You on the other hand seem to be more worried about the visual aspects, in which case any headunit could be suited for your needs.
ok well the unit is in, i will have pictures later. more or less it has everything described above…here is a little more in depth review:
a couple of things i dislike about the unit is that there is no rotary volume knob, im not a button kind of guy. i can never find the button quick enough when i need too. :giggle: …also the subwoofer preout only has 1plug which will require a Y splitter for a typical 2subwoofter amp set up. i found a decent short Y splitter in radioshack for about 5bucks…the cables which run from the headunit to the hideaway box are short in my opinion. they give you one extra long cable which i guess the data is sent through, but the other two (antenna and speakerwires/power cables) are much shorter…you can extend the speaker wire cables but extending the antenna one requires you to buy a longer one. also without the homesize remote i dont think you can make any system adjustments unless you can and im an idiot. and finally the detachface is a tad flimsy…it comes with a case which you should def use, because if you keep this face just in your pocket alone you will break it.
the headunit does actually have alot of features. you can control the output level for each speaker individually including the sub which i found cool and like i said before you can choose if the speaker is “large” or “small” which supposedly cuts low freq. which would harm smaller speakers. it would be nice if you could choose the freq. levels being sent to the subwoofer but you cant win them all…it has a 7band eq with presets and a user which is pritty cool as well…with a little while you can tune it to sound pritty decent watching movies is awesome with the dolby surround - im def thinking of getting a center channel to utilize the option.
as for the picture quality its decent, ive seen other monitors and this one definatly is in the running. today was a very sunny day and the screen did not wash out under direct sunlight which was night. you can fully adjust all the picture qualities as well. the onscreen menus are ez to navigate through. when playing mp3’s it displays the song as well as up coming ones nicely so you know exactly what youre going to be listening to for the next 5songs.
all in all this is a decent unit. its worth what i paid, not the 1400+ list. im happy.
----- I read the entire post after writing this, I understand that you bought what you bought. rock on!! This is for everyone else whoring the boards like I do everyday. This is my first post in a while, but I can totally vouch for blaupunkt. I was one of few who has their ‘00 munchen head-deck with 5 dic in dash player tied to it, and I love it…the changer not so much, but the player rocks. German engineering at it’s finest. It’s almost 6 years old and I can throw a beat up cd in there and it still doesn’t skip, and i’m dumped on koni yellows with s h i t t y arospeed coilovers (p.s. f u c k ebay don’t get ANY coils off of them). I wish i was around more, but i’m a broke ass college student and cant blow money on the teg til i’m done (auto xxxxxxxxxxxx!!)–but I still read these forums almost every day. I WILL say I love my blaupunkt, their screens might not be the sharpest res?? (haven’t been in the game for a while) but maybe they are, and if they can compete in clarity hells yeah. I am completely a sound guy, and never will care about the video in my car (home is a different story). Their adjustability in the full range our ears’ can hear is sweet. I am about to replace my head-deck soon, just cause i heard newer blaupunkt is sickness and it’s time for change, so that’s what i’m going with, no regrets!! oh p.p.s the new faces are hilarious. gayfight is the coolest i laugh every time i see it
“back in the day”, that is late 70’s early eighties I remember you were the stuff if you had a blaupunkt radio/ cassette player in your 280zx. (of which I owned in the early 91)
oh don’t knock it, my pops had an '81 1/2 280 zx turbo. we had to put bags of kitty litter in the trunk in the winter to give it traction…his didn’t have blaupunkt though… all i remember is ding “RIGHT DOOR IS OPEN!!!”
i did, i dont have a camera at the moment to take a pic, but theres about an inch gap, where u can see the metal from the headunit, i believe this would be the case with any of these flip out monitors because of the overhang in the dash-
by moving the unit out any inch was the screen able to open fully without hitting the dash. I kinda want my screen leaning back alittle for optimal site rather than having the screen tilted straight up.
yea, this unit moved an inchout doesnt hit- and i understand you want the screen tilted, but mines clear and its at a good level where the sun doesnt wash out the screen, and the passengers can see it good without othercars seeing it.-- except in mine cause my cars slammed now
