BLKACK1's Build Thread

Nice work. good job with the battery relocation. Hope the new distirbutor takes care of the issue. I can vouch for the screw backing out of the distributor sucking.

Looking good Glynn. Hopefully I will make it down to denver to see it before I move.

Thanx fellas

well as of tonight the engine bay is only a couple of fuses and a valve cover gasket from being done and my distributor came in yesterday.

On a side note for the no start issue, After pulling the v/c and setting TDC. it was very obvius that the intake cam had skip a couple of teeth. So thats also been taken care of and hopefully she will start right up and just need a good timing adjustment:cross:

Progress

:up:EAAAAHH:up:

To finish up the night, I got the rear passenger ass end in the air so i can get a drill under it and prep to set the other rivnuts and fix the pass toe arm stud in the chassis:bang:

till next time:up:

What intake and throttle body are you using?

its a SK2 ebay knock off and im not sue about the T/B.

Battery is all done, getting the 2 rivnuts set under the crossmember proved to be impossible, so i decided to set down some foam pading on the hump under the board and screwed down the other 2 bolts. It sits there so nice, I wish i hadnt drilled the other 2 holes

I also got a ground line made for the transmission and buttoned down the V/C

Shes already to fire up after i get a couple of fuses, which brings up a question.

I plan on using a 80 amp fuse for the under hood fuse box,

what amp fuse should I use for the starter?

Nice work man, this car is coming together quite nicely. Your battery relocation looks very clean, mad kudos.

Too lazy to walk down to my car and check the fuse, but someone knows it off the top of their head lolā€¦

well thats the thing there is no fused link in the oem setup, the batery goes strait to the starter at least according to my scematics.

im gonna dig throught the hayne and see what amperage the starter takes:idea:

EDIT-- nothing about current draw specs:(

The Helms manual says at 3000rpm (starter motor speed) the starter should be pulling 90A. But it also states that during starting while installed in the car reading amperage at the battery, you should see no less than 8.0V and no more than 350A draw. But thereā€™s more than just the starter taxing the battery during the start so thatā€™s kind of vague. Iā€™m guessing you are fusing the line for the purpose of fire prevention, so start at 100A and go up from there.

Thanks dan, I ended up finding it this morning after reading starter testing procedures.

A 100 amp was what i was leaning toward as a starting point:up:

Looks good BLKACK1! Only suggestion would be to relocate the fuse panel on the shock tower. Donā€™t know if you had planned on it, but I just finished mine last week and damn it makes a difference under the hood in terms of looks.

I was just more concerned about ease of install and being there is already a stud there, overall im very please with the outcome of it.

thanx for the suggestion thought:up:

Well here we go agian. same old bullshit, just a different day

So after getting a couple of fuses and going to start it, no go:(

So I Break out the old helms and start working my way down the line.

I started by jumping the starter too 12volts and the motor cranked over, ok so, i move on to pulling and check in the starter relay, relay checked out fine so i reinstalled it.

from there i move to the clutch interlock switch, I had planed on removing this at some point and just bypassing it, and after not being able to unclip the harness after many attemps, I decided to just clip and butt connect the wires together.

while I was doing that, craig tested the starter silinoid and came to determine it was bad, so after testing my other starter and finding it was good we swapped starters. even with this and the inter lock switch bypassed. still no start.

From here we check for continuity between the ignition BLK/WHT wire to the silinoid terminal and the was contenuity, So at this point im pretty sure its a bad ignition switch.

Yeah, that wouldnā€™t be the case, I went and checked each connection one by one and it checked out fine

:wtf: what am I missing here. to boot on top of all of this, the car still wont start even by jumping the starter with the key in the on position:bang:

thoughts and suggestion are always welcome

On a side note. Dan, tommarrow im going to check on those brake lines for you:up:

So my mechanic came over last night and after 20 minutes of looking at stuff, he pinpointed the problem, there is a wire harness next to the fuse box that i unpluged in order to route my power cable for the fuse box and apperently, i pluged it back together, but not well enuff:bang:

that goes to show, no matter how close you pay attention to something. its those little mundane things that will always get you.

She went to work with me today and tomarrow im going to get by tourqe wrench back from aggazi and go back and lossen, preload the suspension since i can stand undernieth it at work and go and re-tourqe everything, then shes off to the allignment shop:rockon:

Hell yeah man! Iā€™m happy for you.

Now if I can only pinpoint MY failureā€¦

nice work glen glad you got that thing going  and take me for spin

If you can run a new fuel line, im sure you can figgure that out.

Shoot me an email, if I can awnser any question or give any suggestions;)

 bring that DB over hear and let me see how its coming and you got a deal:rockon::burnout:

I gotta say, its a whole new car with the rear end being done and is an absolute blast on the on ramp now:manual:

Finnaly got a couple of good dash pics and my newly redone engine bay:)

gave her a bath today aswell:cool:

So much to do, but i gotta save some funds for tunning equipment:)

Haha. I can SEE the fuel line though. Wiring and electricity are my sux0r subjects.

Again, great job to you.

Very nice and glad to see it coming along nicely.

Iā€™m loving the outcome of your car, but that big red wire on the fire wall should get some split loom love:rockon:
