BLKACK1's Build Thread

Wow! Everything is coming together beautifully, loving the fab work. Glad you guys are putting in work and having a good time doing it! Sorry to hear about the collector, but I know you’ll get it all fingered out. I can’t wait to see this thing on the road!

Thanks Matt, Im on it.

Thanks Carl. Come down anytime. I ll be happy to let you come by and have fun puting in some of that work

As far as the baffle is concerned?? All it is, is a 1/8 x 1" stip of aluminum(can be found at any hardware store) and welded it to the inside of the VC. you can see 2 of the welds undernieth each bung and one in the middle. each weld is about an inch long. we tried to weld it on the bottom side as well but can to find out that the original baffle is made of steel and rivited to the aluminum that the VC is made from. welding these 2 dis-similar metals is not easy so I deemed taht those 3 weld would be sufficient to hold that piece in. other then that. I just drilled 2 holes in the front for the bungs themselfs. thats it… pretty simple setup…

:::Updates:::

So since my welder has been awol all weekend. I decided I was going to just tackle this collector by myself. after reading up all day yesterday and spending a couple hours in the gargage last night with a piece of PVC pipe and a protractor, I think I might just have the jist of it…

going to go out and practice some more this morning and hopefully have it down enough to get all of these cut down by tonight.

wish me luck, guys and girls!

Hell YES! Looks like you have it under control, good luck!

Thanks. So after spending most of my day in the garage, im starting to fell more confident in cutting up these pieces. I decided since my agles where slightly different that I needed someway to keep them the same so I came up with this. its a rubber plug that ive marked with the Top line, 30 deg to the right, and 60 to the left.

using this. I found my pieces fit together a lot better. Then I ran into this. somehow I have a wrong angle in there somewhere. as you can see. once 3 of the pieces are together, there is no room to get the forth piece in. looks like its bact to the drawing board. :frowning:

finished up in the garage last night by cutting a bunch more practice pipe. My goal for the day is to find the wrong angle and manage to have a complete plastic collector made.

damn wish my db looked like this. liking the progress and i’ll check more on this posting. thanks for checking out mine as well.

Thank you kind sir

well ive been at cutting these things all day and even thought and even though I didnt accomplish exactly what I wanted too. Ive been trying different angles and Im a lot closer to the where I want to be. (its a lot strait’r then I looks in the picture)

One step closer…

Well apparently 12th time is a charm.

Since the pvc collector came out so well. I figgured it was time to start cutting some steel.

Made It threw 1 whole pipe before this POS bansaw crapped out on me. just gave up for the night once that happened.

Fantastic! That looks great man! Stinks about the bandsaw, looks like its time for another!

thanks man, headed out to try and find out whats wrong with it before I head into work.

Good luck. Oh I bought a one piece headlight at UPAP for 7 bux yesterday. yeah!

LOL Score!

So sadly theres been some major changes to this project. The good news is the car is going to Pang in 2 week and he is going to take over and finish up this project, The bad news is, now I wont really be able to be part of fabrication and well even worse, Ive decided to sever my friendship with someone I thought was my best friend over this. I guess this is just one of lifes little lessons…

Im also starting a new job here soon as well so this thread might go into remission for a little while durring my transition from one job to the other. but without fail, this project WILL be finished.

Good progress was being made too! Good luck at the new job I’m sure the car will be worth the wait
