Block deck questions...

I noticed a few scratches here and there on the deck of my block… I’m thinking about putting some JB Weld on it and razoring them smooth… Would that work or should I even bother one kinda looks like it’s connecting 2 of the cylinders together and it’s about as thick as 2 sheets of paper and about 1/8" wide or less… I don’t wanna take the block back out… any ideas?

I don’t mean to be rude but that JB weld idea is the WORST idea I’ve ever heard. JB weld is strong, yes, but will not hold up for what you are wanting to use it for. First - its just plain old ghetto, second - JB weld is not plyable and will crack the minute you torque the head down, third - it won’t handle the combustion pressures if those cracks did connect the chambers. If you want to do it right, do it the first time, or get out now. I suggest you pull the block and have it decked. You will shoot yourself for not doing it now.

Good Luck!

Yeah. Honda’s are quite sensitive when it comes to the head gasket. Since Honda head gaskets are metal, the head and block must be in perfect shape in order to get a proper seal from teh head gasket. The JB weld may work, ive used it to repair a lot of things, but when it comes to something like this, it’s best to do it correctly instead of back tracking and taking everything apart because the JB weld failed.

Well… when I sanded the JB weld down the way I wanted it I noticed that the scratch doesn’t connect all the way to the outer ring where the coolant goes. Hopefully even if the JB weld were to fail… The head gasket would still keep it from leaking…

We’ll hopefully find out what the story is tomorrow because I might have it built by then. :-/
