My friend has a RX7 turbo with BOV SOUNDS GOOD., I got the point about protecting the turbo and all THANKS.
Where would I find that fake BOV ? and how much would that be? Maybe it would be cheaper just to get a real bov then!?

first do u have a turbo? second u do know it’s only used to release pressure rite? when the turbo is spooling and your accelerating the pressure is building up in the intake manifold, now when you shift and left off the gas it closes the TB, which leaves all that PSI in there which can’ tbe good, so the BOV is released
OK GUYS!! I understand it all…and all the info I needed was cleared way in the begining…AND NO I dont have a turbo that is why i was asking and I did state I do not have a turbo. I just wanted to clear on what the ebov was. This has turned into a big burn session :argh: Sorry for trying to clear some stuff up.

actually, questions are welcome. i mean, you seriously didn’t know, and i’m sure maybe others on the board learned something new, too? but maybe a search would’ve revealed to you that bov applications are for turbocharged cars.
on a humorous note to lighten things up, i have a friend who bought a blow off valve for his eclipse turbo just because the owner of a shop he went to unscrupulously told him it’d give him ~15 hp. i still bag on him hard to this day.

If he has a 2G DSM (95-99) this is true. The stock BOV’s on these cars are notorious for bleeding at about 12 psi and an aftermarket or a 1G BOV for these cars gain back the power that would have been lost due to a poor stock BOV.

So true. My roomate just put in a 1st gen Eclipse BOV because the spring is stiffer and holds more boost. It’s HELLA fast now because of that one little tiny detail, and louder when it goes off…

DSMs and in fact all factory turbo cars are monsters in the making, you touch it and it makes more power. There were a few tricks we did that cost less then $10 buck that made power on those cars. It’s so tempting for me to go to the dark side. I hang out with a lot of DSMer and laugh all the time when us Teg guys talk about having a quick 15 second car…

what i ment was, if you want to use the BOV then buy a turbo kit for your car.
about using the real BOV, correct me if im wrong and i think its already been said but ill try to explain it a little better(slower).
the real BOV will not work on you non turbo car, the way it works is that when you let off the gas to shift, the gases or whatever, are trapped in the pipping so it needs somewhere to go, hence the BOV, its used to releases the gases in between the turbo and the throttle body. again i may be wrong so please correct me if i am but i was reading somthing like this a few weeks ago, and im not very knowledgable about turbos…just enough to know that this is the stupidest thread ever.
Please do not forget to buy your front mount intercooler effect kit so at least people will think that you might have boost under your hoot.
save your money and just get an exhaust system or something useful like a small weekend get away. Why on earth will you put a Blow off valve on your otherwise stock engine with no boost? It’s like trying to make people think you got boost but not really. You will be laughed at when you pop your hood to show people your joke you are trying to play on them.
One more thing, I don’t think it will even make any noise without boost because there is just no air pressure pushing out of the Blow OFF VALVE. It is supposed to blow off…? Get it…?
That is a cool sound though, but it is kinda ricey. I learned something new I thought the blow off made the noise cause of the waste the turbo produces all the acess air created. To have it shot out through the blow off rather then just having come out the exhaust or something. Am I making any sense?
Yup, I think I’m going to convert to the dark side soon. I found a 90 Laser with 97000 mile and 1 owner for $2400 OBO. This guy’s been trying to sell this car for a month.
He might take <$2000. Hmm, build a b17 to end up with less power or buy a DSM and join my brother whooping hondas/acuras/fords/chevys/dodges? Tough question, see you on DSMTalk.
