i’ve been driving this car for a while now, it has a lil over 250,000 on it. recently i noticed a major drop in power, and light blue smoke out the exhaust. i have a bad feeling its the piston rings or something of that nature. was wondering if anyone could give me ideas of what this is.
light blue smoke is most commonly burning oil.
It may be from your piston rings, but it could be a number of things. My car was burning oil but it was leaking out of the head at the cam cap dripping down the block and into mu exhaust manifold.
Do a compression test to check your rings.
I got the same prob with my car.
260K and I keep wearing out tires every 80K or so.
Also, I’m 90 years old and can’t seem to “get it up” every night anymore.
Only Elvis’ car has more miles than me but, he’s got a hella mechanic.
Piston rings. Fix it before it just quits running…sorry!
is there a right up some where on how to fix this and how much it will cost
Depends how you fix it…my friend’s 240sx had to get new rings…among other things, a full engine rebuild and it ran him $5000…now obviously you won’t be that stupid to spend that much money on such an old car! But the labor sucks.
its not necessarily the rings…it could be the valve seals going out, but with such a noticeable loss of horsepower i would think its the rings. but do a dry and wet compression test.
yea do a compression test and if it passes then its probably the valve seals… that will most likely contribute to a loss of power…
thats why the rings came to mind first, the power loss…

Before you blame your rings check your PCV system!!! make sure its ok and none of the lines have rotted. the line going from the back of the block to the intake is in a horrible place and is always broken on every G2 i come across.
I changed my rings about a year ago. I worked on the car every so often and took about 1 year. I wasn’t in too much of a rush.

the car has about 50,000 Kilometers on it since then and runs perfect, lots of power no smoke quite idle and the oil always looks clean =)
