my brother snapped his timing belt and pretty much bent the valves…my question is that if the piston hits the head and bent things, is the block still good at all? i mean, im not good with this kind of things. if the block is still good then im gonna buy it to built a ls vtec for my civic…
rip it apart and check it out
Chances are that it is fine. Hell, the head may even still be good but I can tell you there is nothing more disheartening than putting a refreshed head on a block only to start it up and have a rod knock. True story.
So yeah, gotta check that sucker out. But you were going to do that anyway when you built it up for LS/VTEC, right?!
Well. I was just planning to use it stock like that if the block is still good.
You can use the stock block… but being that you know it has snapped a timing belt, it would be wise to check things out. Maybe replace the main/rod bearings to make sure nothing will go wrong concerning those… make sure the pistons aren’t damaged from slapping the valves… then you’d probably be good to slap a vtec head on it and go.
Should build it though, enough of that ‘stock’ BS.
